"Well then Mr. Hill, let me introduce you to the Weird, Wonderful World of Linux."
@dustinfinn
If they wouldn't
* force stuff on you
* share info behind your back
* limit choices
If they would just make a decent product, they could have unbeatable market share.
They think they have things locked up now, but their hubris will fix that.
@dustinfinn this. but to any darn dir I want
@dustinfinn That‘s why there are such things as #nextcloud and #owncloud.
@schamschula @dustinfinn Use #Linux. Problem solved.
@myself
Unfortunately there is still no usable alternative to Office on Linux
@schamschula @dustinfinn

@jaj @schamschula @dustinfinn I'm not a very heavy office user, but still does a lot of office. #LibreOffice have never disappointed me.

LibreOffice can do everything I can think of. It's just that the way you do it might be different from any other office suite. It just takes some time to get used to.

@jaj @schamschula @dustinfinn Most people (not everyone) never tries any alternative and simply assumes that #Microsoft / #Adobe softwares are the only one that works.
@dustinfinn it's scary when you work for a state entity and saving to OneDrive is the default. And sometimes the computer is downright hostile when trying to save somewhere else.
@dustinfinn #Alt4You
Hank Hill saying “I do not want to save to onedrive. I want to save to the documents folder. On my computer. That I have. In my house.”
@dustinfinn The followup to this for my fellow outlook work users: I do not want to put this in an attachments folder and share. I just want to attach it to an email. Like I have for literally the entire existence of this gawd forsaken product.
@dustinfinn The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales is a 1985 book by neurologist Oliver Sacks describing the case histories

@dustinfinn If adobe was bold for using every users files, Microsoft will do the same
@dustinfinn Lmaoo sometimes I do feel like Hank Hill

A while back I found out F12 is the new ALT+F,A to get you straight to a local Save As dialog in #Microsoft365 #Office365 apps. Thank goodness some #software #developer in Redmond thinks like we do. #Hero. (Now just gotta disable these stupid feature keys in the laptop #UEFI.)

Absolutely right, @dustinfinn, I don't need #Microsoft pushing #OneDrive on me. My employer, #industry, and #HigherEd does enough of that already. At home and my own #business, it's #FOSS #LibreOffice all the way.

@dustinfinn Local storage is cheap and a one time expense. Have a laptop, get a usb external ssd. Have a desktop, get either a ssd or hdd. Even better would be stop supporting the fucking OS that keeps trying to milk you. You wouldn't pay for adware, yet people keep paying for Windows. Instead of spending time complaining about you OS, spend even of fraction of that time learning something else. Try out something link Linux Mint or Fedora; they work right out of the box.
@dustinfinn That might be a problem, Sir. You're in an internet café. And your computer at home isn't even turned on. And you live in another state.
@dustinfinn that's why I have local account on my W11, but for daily usage I boot Linux
@dustinfinn I'd add:
“I don't want it to be saved at all: just allow me to type it and print it without x copies being sent to your datacenters during the process”
@dustinfinn
You must be a lunatic
@asl
@jaj @dustinfinn In fact, my documents /are/ saved in the cloud. On my own server, running nextcloud, located in my basement. Not on somebody else computer. And yes, I can use it from anywhere in the world as long as I'm connected to the Internet.
