Say what you will about the UK, but the quick transition of power and the lack of election denial are refreshing to see.
@davidho Let's hope King Charles doesn't mess it up, technically it's not official until he does his song and dance.
@androcat That has happened.
@davidho Whew. Well, Starmer is a Knight, Chuck could hardly have anything seriously against him.

@davidho
Right? One politician concedes, apologizes because they were unable to show merit to continue, respect the decision of the people. The new one thanks the former one and vows to take it forward.

Instead of, say, having the former one denying they lost, accusing the new one of rigging the process, and refusing to ever concede or go there to ceremoniously transfer the power. Nah. This behavior would be so low, childish that no serious country, no serious person, no mature adult would ever to that.

@davidho
I think it really helps that the conservatives can move straight to backstabbing one another for the leadership.

Really looking forward to see who they gonna pull out of the hat.
They certainly thinned the ranks

@jfparis @davidho I love that Sky News cut off Grant Shapps goodbye speech. Already yesterday's news, no one wants to listen to him.
@baoigheallain Don't care about shapps. We want Michael green :)

@jfparis @davidho

>I think it really helps that the conservatives can move straight to backstabbing one another for the leadership.

i hope all those teams lose.jpeg

@davidho Also refreshing is the small size of each parliamentary district when compared to the US House of Representatives and don't get me started about the Senate.

@davidho There are people that deny that there has been an election?!

... I'll show myself out.

@davidho Yes. It is. Do you think Lachlan is less of a chaos agent than his dad? Is that why?
@davidho Yeah - Who's that bloke with the girl in the red dress?
@davidho Although I doubt this chap will ever exceed Larry the cat in popularity, I am hopeful that he can steer that great nation into fairer winds.
@davidho couldn't agree more, and in the other hand how low is the bar now that we celebrate what should be the most normal and base democratic behavior
Oracle’s Larry Ellison joined Nov. 2020 call about contesting Trump’s loss

The billionaire GOP donor, the biggest backer of Elon Musk’s attempted Twitter takeover, participated along with Fox’s Sean Hannity and Sen. Lindsey Graham, according to court filings and a participant.

@davidho say what you will about the US, but the fact that a smooth transition of power and no election denialism is refreshing to them is incredibly depressing

@davidho well, it being a landslide victory helps.

Also it was so obvious they were shit at governing they knew themselves their time had come

@davidho Armed mobs trying to storm Downing Street just isn’t cricket

@davidho

But Larry is there for life!

@davidho The UK really needs to sort out some tenants rights - no more immediate evictions.

@davidho

What does Larry the Cat say?

@NoctisEqui @davidho The same cat is still in power.

@kleinertod

Good to know there is some stability at #10. Larry has served admirably, better than this last run of residents.

@davidho
UK election - six weeks start to finish.
A few TV debates.
Vote Thursday, result and new government Friday.
No accusations of 'stealing'.
Job done.
#GE2024

@davidho

It's nice to see what's possible when adults are involved.

@davidho The whole election process as well. All votes counted promptly

@davidho

Can I please move to the UK? I won't be any trouble, I promise.

@davidho I expect there will be a few "stiff letters" to the Times Newspaper.
@davidho Half the voters aren't telling themselves the SAS is going to storm 10 Downing and arrest the new PM and put him before a military tribunal? How can you run a country that way?

@davidho

Refreshing is the right word. Thinking about the #UK and the #USA back in WWII days, when we were friends fighting fascism together.

#Election2024

@davidho That transition was so fast, it almost feels like Sunak was training for the 100 meters in the Olympics instead of campaigning.

He and his family have what we call f@ck-off money, so I doubt we will ever see them again - unless their hubris is unbounded.

@davidho Knowing the UK, it's amazing that they don't have several future PMs queued up outside 10 Downing Street.
@davidho agree ,, but man needs a better taylor. Damn! Them trousers.
@davidho We could do a quick transition like that here in the US with one constitutional update…All we need is 67 votes…
@davidho could you see an orange coloured person who had lost the election putting barrels of gunpowder under the House of Commons?
@davidho It’s something I’ve never taken for granted. We may be stuck in our ways and traditions, but they’re a sign of relative stability, which isn’t a bad thing in today’s mad world.
@davidho we'd be mortified if they did anything else.
