@SwiftOnSecurity the joke in my head is that Republicans in Congress want to ban TikTok because the “Chinese propaganda” in that app might drown out the Russian propaganda they’re already laundering
@jwcounts @SwiftOnSecurity
I probably don't use it enough but TikTok still so far looks to me like a gun that hasn't yet been fired, at least, propaganda-wise.
(Not that it can't or won't be.)
@FeralRobots @SwiftOnSecurity Agreed, at least not at a large scale. I thought a ban was kinda silly because TT’s mad drive to become QVC would probably alienate users faster than a ban could. I’ve certainly found the experience worse now that every 3rd or 4th video is trying to sell me something
@jwcounts @SwiftOnSecurity
who knows, maybe that's the real ploy!😆

@FeralRobots @jwcounts @SwiftOnSecurity In some ways active propaganda isn’t necessary.

Put another way, you might be able to hide poison in very sugary sodas, but if people are happily buying the soda, they’re already getting hurt, and on a much bigger scale.

TikTok is great for exploding nuance and demanding people do…something, NOW, or else you’re Team Evil, which cuts into people’s ability to work cohesively; who needs propaganda?

@WhiteCatTamer @FeralRobots @SwiftOnSecurity Absolutely. I realize that governments are pushing for a blanket ban not because of heavy-handed, full scale propaganda output, but the giant surface area the app provides for tiny nudges
