Mr Kitty is at the vets getting the full spa treatment.
At least that’s what I told him.
He has a classic presentation of FOPS but vet couldn’t find anything.
So now bloods, sedated examination and X-rays have been ordered.
Hopefully we will have answers and solutions this afternoon.

The vet just called. Potential C word.
An extra $1400 on top of what I've paid is required for a biopsy.
I have requested a VetPay increase, but I am fairly certain they will refuse.
FWIW I will ask for help, although I know it's probably futile.

The vet has called again, asking for permission to take more X-rays. They have found a shadow on his heart but cannot determine what it is.
So this is me, an utter mess, bawling my eyes out.
Extra X-rays still have them stumped due to the position of the shadow.
He has a long incision and mass under his tongue. He is going back for surgery tomorrow for a biopsy.
Continuing with this train of thought shadow possibly cancer.
Hence rejecting the offer to send to a specialist for a 4-5K CT scan.
Thankfully it hasn't spread to the lungs.
Yet.
If it is.
Both Mr Kitty and I are anxious awaiting for him to be prepped fur surgery.
Extra stressed as vet bill has spiralled. Exceeding the quote they gave and increased limit I got from VetPay.
Looks like we are going to have to leave as I don’t have enough cash.
I can hardly hold it together.
Heart is breaking. Tears welling.
Do not want to make a scene.
Not just for me but for Mr Kitty.
This is what the vet found today. A extremely large ovoid “hole” for want of a better word (sorry I am a complete shambles right now).
Possibly explains why the vet bill started at $1100 and spiralled to over $3600 at present.
Vet has 2 theories, which are waiting on the biopsy reports that could take >9 days.
A) It is cancer. Cannot say which, but I would imagine given location it is squamous cell carcinoma.
If it is Cancer vet doesn’t believe she could remove it all & for Mr Kitty to still have a functioning tongue. Essentially, unsurprisingly a death sentence.
B) He cut it eating something he shouldn’t have & a necrotic microbe has set up house.
If cancer is ruled out a swab to do culture and sensitivity (yes, music to my ears) to determine which antimicrobials are appropriate to use.
Of course doing culture & sensitivity (C&S) the traditional way (been trying for years to convince vets to change) could take a very long time depending of the species of bacteria & how fastidious it is.
#WGS is a lot faster, more accurate and better able to predict resistance (look out for my next paper)
Regardless of what the underlying cause is, it’s going to be a very painful time for him as it is likely to affect CN V (trigeminal nerve) possible CN VIII (vestibulocochlear nerve) and CN IX (glossyoparyngeal nerve).

Mr Kitty ate like a champion last night and this morning.
Not sure if just based solely on his inelastic love/demand of food.
The vets had offered to dispense further pain relief, at this stage not looking like he needs it 🤞🏻
We’ve been enjoying our time together.
