How much ram did your first computer have at your home ?🤔
@nixCraft 1k, it was a Sinclair ZX81.
@hetoug @nixCraft Yep. Mine too, though I got the 16KB RAM pack. It was fairly unusable without it and the pack worked fine as long as no-one moved and caused it to wobble.
@huddie @nixCraft I got a 64kb pack and then had space to waste. Did my university course on Numerical Computations on it some years later. The prof enjoyed that.
@nixCraft 64 KB, I think. Apple IIe.
@nixCraft 1MB (Amiga 500+). Still have it.
@nixCraft It was an #amiga 1000 with 256 KB (from last century said my daughter)

@lucas3d @nixCraft

Last millennium dude, daughter child doesn't yet have the 'time in' to discern past several decades.

@nixCraft 64KB (Schneider aka Amstrad CPC 464)
@nixCraft 5KB - Commodore VIC-20
@stormhair @nixCraft same here.. you really learn to budget your code when you only have 5k.
@nixCraft I don’t know I was like 4 at the time but the model I remember having maxed out at 10MB
@nixCraft 4k built in, + 16k exp. Pack
@nixCraft 3.5Kb available in the Commodore VIC-20.
@nixCraft 15 7-byte registers. It was TOUGH to play videogames on that thing.
@nixCraft Ah damn, i was wrong. My first computer had 16 KB RAM (Commodore C16) followed by a Commodore C64... ✌🏻
@nixCraft 48Kb - 1982 ZX Spectrum
@nixCraft 512k (a Mac Plus in the late 80s)
@nixCraft no idea atm, but I remember being impressed by the 20GB HDD lol (late to the computer culture, 1999 I think)
@nixCraft oh yeah, and the HP I got had 2 CD drives so you could copy anything at will, and they included CD ripping and duplicating software lol
@nixCraft Pretty sure the first home computer we had in our family had 4 MB or RAM, because I fairly clearly remember messing with DOS config files (config.sys and/or autoexec.bat) to optimize the extended and expanded memory to run various games that required most or all of that RAM.

@nixCraft 16 KB but then it was upgraded to 64 KB by using the 1064 upgrade module. 😮 (from 600XL to 800XL) 😁

#Atari

@nixCraft 64 KByte; SVI328 running MS Basic (ROM), memory split in two 32K banks + 32 I ROM or 64Kbyte with CP/M80 booting from floppy.

@nixCraft
I don't know what the first computer's RAM was since I was small at that time. Though the first computer that I actually checked the RAM of is 2GB.

At the time, 2 GB of RAM allowed me to do anything I wanted on the computer. Even light gaming as I recall. In fact, I didn't even bother checking the RAM until a year or 2 ago when I got curious.

@nixCraft
We had a C64 with 64 kb. But my own first computer had 128 kb (Commodore 128)
@nixCraft 16k. And a 3MHz cpu. (TI99-4A)
@nixCraft 64 KB RAM Osborne 1
Still have it. SuperCalc was great for building chemical process models and investment projections.
@nixCraft 4MB. An IBM 486 with Windows 3.1. What a time.
@nixCraft first was ZX Spectrum (but I didn't ever manage to work with it properly) and then Atari ST 512, it had 512 KB. Oh, btw. first HD had 30 MB and I thought, I never gonna fill it...
