first complaint: we need cute logbooks. black is boring, pink is not even pink, it's salmon.

I've wanted to fly since I was a child.

And it happened today... I flew a plane today. I'm still actually processing that.

data from flightaware.
Going to try and get out there again this coming Saturday. Weather doesn't look good right now but it's only Monday.

So the challenges in this are already showing themselves. I'm likely going to have a VERY difficult time getting a medical clearance due to the FAA's stance on certain medications.

Not impossible, but it's going to take a VERY long time and require a LOT of extra work.

While disheartening, it's just yet another problem to solve, and it *does* so far seem solvable. Just at great expense of time and $$.

In case you're interested in the challenge ahead I face.

FAA isn't a fan of ADHD. Definitely won't let you get a medical cert if taking medication for it.

New FAA Guidance for Medical Applicants with an ADHD Diagnosis

If I ever have the opportunity to have a custom tail number for an aircraft, you KNOW it has to be some variation of N1337_, the _ being whatever final alphabetical char is available.

Of course the sun is gonna be out while I'm away, lol. What a punk.

I need to be in the air again. And the weather is not behaving.

Welcome to General Aviation 😜

I'm getting the vibe that aviation tend to track farily conservative based on some of the ads youtube has decided I should see, videos I'm being recommended, and comments I see.

If the weather behaves, I'll be flying again on Saturday.

Also, I found a pink logbook.

Happy Saturday morning. I did this today ^_^

#TeaganAir

Its log book official. I have 2.3 hours ^_^

If u asked me to describe what flying a small plane is like, I'd say it's a combination of a motorcycle/ATV and a boat at 4000 ft in the air

On the ground things get very fast very quickly. There's a certain Mount of instability on the ground hence motorcycle/atv.

Also if you didn't know, you steer a plane on the ground with your feet, not the control yoke. Rudder pedals and brakes. It's not a car.

In the air it's bumpy and floaty and feels like you're in a boat on the water. You have control, but sometimes a wave knocks you around a little bit, so u need to get your sea legs except in the air.

Oh another random tidbit:

Flying is physical. Today I'm *sore* in my back and legs like I went to the gym.

This isn't like hopping in the car for a Sunday drive stuff. It's closer to a sport than a cruise in my newly initiated opinion.

#TeaganAir

Happy Saturday lovelies. Welcome to 4000ft.

Going back up tomorrow and we're doing stalls and slow flight.

#TeaganAir #pilot #flying #pa28

Choppy day today, but super fun. We did slow flight and stalls. At one point we had our ground speed down to 16mph with an airspeed of 65.

It was a nice clear day, a little hazy at altitude, but nice none the less.

This stuff really is like going to the gym. I ended up taking a 2 hour nap today (just waking up) because I'm physically tired. I'm also rly sore, especially my legs. LOTS of right rudder today.

I need a headset.

Ah yes, the budget friendly one will do ($699)

This one only had 1 question

They sure do like to say "May be unrecoverable" as a way to say "This shit will kill you"

This one was only 2 questions, but I'll take it :)

I'm about halfway thru the first study unit

For those who are curious, there are 11 study units.

Heck yea, end of study unit 1.

I donked up my threading, so this should be part of the mega thread here.

Attached: 3 images No pretty pics today, it was busy. We did S turns, pattern work, turns around a point, and the most exciting would be the simulated engine failure which required climbing to 3500 ft, bringing the thottle to idle, then finding a place to land, and glide to it. I definitely hesitated when he said "ok, bring it to idle" My response was "Oh... like, right now?" Also, my headset came in today while I was out flying, so I'll have it for tomorrow! ^_^ #PilotTraining #Flying #TeaganAir #PA28 #Pilot #FlightSchool

Happy Sunday,

Today, I completed my first Cross Country Flight (Flight over 50 Nautical Miles).

We flew from Mason Mi to Sturgis Mi and back.

Happy Saturday lovelies!

Last week the weather didn't cooperate so we're back at it today.

Power on Stall recovery, power off stall recovery, slow flight, simulated engine failure(!), pattern work, 3 landings with a little help, and 1 go around.

Can't complain about any of that ^_^

Lovelies and gentle lovelies,

It's been a busy weekend.

🚨 breaking news:

Teagan landed an airplane all by herself today!

Pics are from saturday, ended up with a flat tire after our last landing

I've started the medical clearance process today after putting it off due to dreading the beauracracy I'm going to have to deal with. This is progress.

Wish me luck đŸ¤ˇâ€â™€ī¸

Scheduled to fly on Saturday. Always looking forward to it.

I'm frustrated I have to go thru the beauracracy. Most people walk in to the Dr and walk out with a medical. They're trying to change the process but that doesn't help me. I'm glad it'll help people in the future.

I've read of people spending a year or more waiting on medicals when having to go thru The Process(tm).

At least I'll be very well practiced come time to solo

I put in 2.9 hours today, officially my longest flight time yet ^_^

Worked with a new instructor today and it was really nice. Hoping to go back put tomorrow if the wind behaves.

Periodic reminder that I fucking love flying. ❤ī¸

I feel like I can Officially call myself a student pilot now because I finally got my plastic card in the mail today.

Feels really cool.

I have close to 35 hours in my logbook as of last weekend, and only today does it feel official, lol

Guess who landed a plane on her own repeatedly today?

This bitch.

(I'm not soloed yet but it was done without help)

I have just shy of 40 hours in my logbook at this point.

I submitted the MedXpress form today and have an appt with an AME this week. Starting what will likely be an arduous process.

Wish me luck over the coming months

Did the visit to the Dr last week. I have some homework I need to do but the ball is officially rolling.

Scheduled to fly on Saturday from mason to grand rapids (KTEW to KGRR) assuming weather behaves.

My plan with all of this is to get thru private pilot, and immediately continue on towards instrument rating, commercial pilot, and eventually flight instructor.

I learned yesterday that 5 weeks is too long to go w/o flying. The skills and knowledge are degradable.

I spent an hour under the Foggles practicing instrument flying, flew to two different Class C airports, and got a taste of what it's like flying an instrument approach to land.

It was a good day 😌

Departing Gerald R Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids Michigan, on the climb out to 3500 ft

Seemed like a good day to rock the @GrrCON shirt

Im actually super focused in that photo while listening to the control tower and watching my airspeed and altitude on the climb out.
First night flight scheduled this week ^_^

Lovelies and other lovelies, this is what I did after work tonight

#TeaganAir #FlightTraining #Flying #PilotTraining #FlightSchool #PA28 #grandrapids

Bonus: short video

Well as of last night I've completed all the required dual training hours required for a private pilot certificate. I can't begin the 10 hours of solo time requirement until I have a valid medical, and that's held up in the deferred state for the foreseeable future.

#TeaganAir #FlightTraining #pilottraining #pilot #AvGeek #aviation #StudentPilot

I've channeled my project management and GRC skillset to help with this medical process. It's a dependency hell kind of thing and I have 2 spreadsheets *so far* to track the statuses of various requests.
For those who may be curious. One of the documents has 2 sheets
I also just ordered a duplex document scanner to scan all these documents in as I receive them to make it easier to share with my AME.

Also, this is the tricky part, some of those items have sub-items to them.

Today I'm working on an outline for the ADHD Personal Statement. These are the guidelines.

If you're following along and think this whole process seems like excessive nonsense, then I'd like to share with you this link

https://www.faa.gov/newsroom/faa-statement-mental-health-and-aviation-medical-clearances-rulemaking-committee-0

There is hope for change in all this, the Mental Health and Aviation Medical Clearances Rulemaking Committee pulled no punches and was very blunt in their report that the current approach is broken.

@heckinteagan honestly, my ADHD coping mechanisms would make me a better pilot. Routines and checklists and verifications ARE my coping strategies.
@heckinteagan Yikes. This looks painful. You'd think they'd make this easier given its importance.
@heckinteagan Yeah, it took them like 3+ months to clear me for a class 3 because I had a broken rib months earlier that had already healed by the time of my medical exam đŸ¤Ļ‍♂ī¸
@louis mine is due to some meds I've taken in the past, and am no longer taking, Requiring me to do a cogscreen, psych evaluation, a whole bunch of stuff. I've started tracking it all in spreadsheets due to how much is involved.

@heckinteagan Yeah, it's crazy how much the bureaucracy ramps up for certain treatments. Prevents a lot of pilots from seeking help.

The good news is that the reform movement for that problem is really gaining steam. The bad news is that it'll get fixed way too late to help you.

@louis I'm happy to see it being fixed for the future applicants. The report releases earlier this year (Mental Health ARC Final Report) did not pull any punches and was blunt about how broken our approach is.
@heckinteagan YAY!!! What a great night for a first after-dark flight! Congrats! 🎉
@heckinteagan Oooh!!! This is going to be exciting!
@heckinteagan Great looking day to fly! Hope it was a lot of fun!
@femme_mal awesome day for it ^_^ knocked out my sntrument hours I need as well so big Ole checkbox there. Nailed the landings, amd handled.the rafios for most of it with the occasional assist from my CFI. Great day ^_^
@heckinteagan GrrCON can take you places.
@heckinteagan Superb! Happy for you, can't wait to hear when you've soloed!
