Mark Zuckerberg could shoot a puppy on live stream and some of you would still want to federate with Threads BECAUSE AUDIENCE!
Unfuckingbelievable.

There's astonishing mental gymnastics being performed by some instance admins, it's really depressing. When did they start getting comfortable with companies linked to genocides?
And we still don't know what was said in that private meeting between some instances admins and Meta last year. They announced it happened, they announced the participants signed NDAs, but nothing else was revealed AFAIK.
@FediThing @aral
Because "big number good."
10 out of 10 times, this is what every conversation I've seen has boiled down to. Everything else has ended up being exposed as pretense.
Tis sad. I know many of us came to mastodon with the hope that mastodon would be found to be a refuge. I understand I don’t have to engage with threads, and I am in a position where I don’t have to engage in social media at all. I’m starting to think, that might be best.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
I’m so fucking disappointed by this, I shouldn’t be but, I am.
Anyone that has anything interesting to say will be banned from Meta-owned instances in under a week. It's a pointless endeavor.
@aral It has nothing to do with Mark Fucking Zuckerberg. It has everything to do with the fact that there are some people who post on his shitty site that people might actually want to follow. And yes, it would definitely be preferable if they would join #Mastodon and post here, but since they won't, and since I don't actually want to create an account on Threads, reading those posts here is a compromise. Would you prefer I created an account over there, just so I can follow those people?
As far as I am concerned Zuckerberg could tie a big rock around his ankles and jump out of a boat into a deep lake (and the #Musk Rat could do the same) and it would not bother me. We do not want to #federate because of him. But a year ago everyone was carping day and night about how bad the #birdsite was and how everyone should leave there. Well, that is actually happening, more slowly than it should, but it is happening. And you're just pissed because not all of them are coming to Mastodon. I wish they would, you probably wish they would, but they don't, and that doesn't mean that there is nothing they write that is worth reading!
And if this "I'm going to block your site because you won't block some other site I don't like" nonsense continues, the #Fediverse is going to fall apart pretty fast. I can see it up to a point, nobody wants the nazis and the fascists here, nor spammers. But if you start blocking entire sites just because you don't like the site operator, that doesn't seem to me to be in the spirit of the Fediverse. I thought that users were supposed to be the ones to decide whom to block or not block, and keep in mind that just because someone is using Threads doesn't make them a Zuck fan.
