My wife has joined a Facebook group, specifically for people all pretending to be ants. What a weird, but utterly harmless, corner of the internet.
@bloor Thereโ€™ll be thousands in that group once the weather warms up.
@barsteward @bloor someone should organise a meet-up picnic
@bloor what happens if you post a pic of a can of Raid?

@danieldurrans @bloor What did the Pink Panther say when he stepped on an ant?

Dead ant, dead ant โ€ฆ dead ant, dead ant, dead ant, dead ant, DEAD ANNNNT!

#DadJoke

@bloor I'm joining this right now
@bloor did you not see the movie, Them!?
Phase IV (1974 film) - Wikipedia

@kieransweeney @piratero @bloor Iโ€™ll look it up. Thank you!! I hated having to live through the 1970s. I worked to avoid much of it.
@bloor this is literally what the Internet was made for, I feel that in my bones
@demimom I strangely agree! Like, 100% totally agree.
@bloor @demimom I have good news, here is another thing the internet was definitely unironically made for https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2024/03/the-super-mario-maker-community-faces-its-final-boss/
The Super Mario Maker community faces its final boss

"Team 0%" is struggling to clear "Trimming the Herbs" before an April 8 server shutdown.

@demimom @bloor I'm sure I once read a Terry Pratchett book that reliably informed me this is what the Internet is made *of*.
@demimom @bloor it is! I found the receipt. Clearly states on it what we're meant to do with the Internet.
@demimom @bloor The internet started off just like this. I miss how silly it was. I'm glad that The Really Big Button That Doesn't Do Anything is still around. An internet fossil. https://krystalrose.com/rosewood/library/BigButton.htm
The Really Big Button That Doesn't Do Anything

[A Copy Of] The Original useless button [in case it disappears off the interwebs]

@bloor Reminds me of that subreddit where everyone is pretending to be robots pretending to be humans.

Link for anyone curious: https://reddit.com/r/totallynotrobots/

@bloor that's precious, actually
@bloor Inb4 the Ant Colony radicalises themselves into a powerful mutual aid community, a concept they will potentially think they invented for the very first time in humans (borrowing from the wisdom of ants though, obviously) .
@bloor You say "harmless" now, but even after FB burns down, that group will remain, infesting every platform it encounters.
@bloor @trendytoots Sometimes going to a day job is not enough, I guess.
@bloor nothing brings two dozen ants together like one strawberry
@bloor reminds me of an old This American Life (?) story about a fake company on Facebook made up entirely of people pretending to be employees and do their nonexistent jobs. Complete with office drama and everything.

@bloor Iโ€™ll lift in spirit

โ€œL I F T S !โ€

@bloor @clive There are lots of such groups, too many for my screenshot!

@bloor

I would be the odd one out "drop" ... Giggles

Hugz & xXx

@bloor they are playing; this is part of their enrichment
@bloor i was in that group lol
@bloor I'm a moth and this is racist
@bloor @Griff I once found myself in a Facebook group called โ€œThe Facebook Siteโ€ that was like this except everyone pretended to be Facebook employees. Complete with pretend complaints about reheating fish in the microwave. It was odd.
@bloor we need a fedi instance thatโ€™s just this
@bloor or maybe a beehive?

@sillyp @bloor GURLZ THERE'S A FLOWER!

BUZZ!

@bloor itโ€™s been around since at least 2020. Itโ€™s so much fun!
@bloor one of the ants is a cardboard box with human limbs
@bloor The names in that screenshot all read like fake spam names.
