See, this is why we need dedicated lanes.

And you thought you were having a bad day...

@evelyn I donโ€™t think dedicated lanes are needed for motorbikes. We donโ€™t have them in the states. But motor bikes are expected to follow the same rules as cars.

Iโ€™m still in disbelief at how recklessly the motorcycle drivers are here.

Just yesterday, I was making a left turn and a motorcycle goes to my left and then cuts me off to make a right turn. Why didnโ€™t he just go to my right to begin with?

@my_actual_brain
On some major roads like Commonwealth Ave you'll see a lane for #motorcycles. Many motorcycle riders don't have enough common sense to maneuver through traffic safely.

It's dumb how they overtake. Exactly as you described.

That's how I had my first #bicycle accident with a motorist. The #motorcycle cut right in front* of me, from my left* to go right*, but he did it too close and I sort of T-boned his ๐Ÿ๏ธ bike. Not an exact T, more like a Y.

So dumb. ๐Ÿ˜

@evelyn I hope you were not injured in that accident. The motorcycles are kind of a blessing and a curse. They do a great job stopping traffic and create a barrier for me when I need to turn on to a road.

@my_actual_brain
Well, it's not just #motorcycle riders. It's not uncommon to see #motorists ๐Ÿ›ต๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿš™๐Ÿ›ป๐Ÿš๐Ÿšš๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿš• (even #cyclists and #pedestrians) here acting and moving as though they don't see others or don't understand the proper flow of traffic. #CommonSense #MetroManila #traffic

On another note, I've had a few pleasant experiences of ๐Ÿ๏ธ riders actively* assisting this #TurtleOn2Wheels ๐Ÿซฃ, like a ride marshall, slowing down to block potential danger and telling me "Sige lang, go."

@evelyn @my_actual_brain I love Manila, there is no way on earth I would ride anything with 2 wheels and an engine in the city.

Been around the world and Manila is one of the only place I wonโ€™t drive let alone ride.

@leerayl
Yeah, I don't recommend that visiting* foreigners* drive on our streets. It can get complicated.

#Filipinos are nice and warm people but we do have some* corrupt authorities ๐Ÿ‘ฎ and crooks ๐ŸงŸโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Add to that bad roads and some vague signage โ†ฉ๏ธ.

Become a local. Learn our ways. Before you drive. ๐Ÿคช

Actually, just avoid unnecessary* complications... like #driving. โ˜๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

As for #riding ๐Ÿšด, ride with a local friend. #SafetyInNumbers

Aaaaah, just hire a #car with a driver!! ๐Ÿ˜…

@evelyn I lived there but yeah. I love the city and while I am pretty white, I have been around Filipinos most of my life.

I have a couple stories of corruption and cops specifically around payoff for traffic violations.

I know a lot of people donโ€™t have a clue of the driving situation and rules, it was eye opening to not be able to drive on certain days.

I still feel for people in the city who make massive efforts to just get to work everyday. Hours on broken trains, or 3-4 hour bus rides. Living away from family to work.

I had to drive to a work site yesterday I was complaining about traffic but this has been a reminder some people have it way worse.
