@evelyn I donโt think dedicated lanes are needed for motorbikes. We donโt have them in the states. But motor bikes are expected to follow the same rules as cars.
Iโm still in disbelief at how recklessly the motorcycle drivers are here.
Just yesterday, I was making a left turn and a motorcycle goes to my left and then cuts me off to make a right turn. Why didnโt he just go to my right to begin with?
@my_actual_brain
On some major roads like Commonwealth Ave you'll see a lane for #motorcycles. Many motorcycle riders don't have enough common sense to maneuver through traffic safely.
It's dumb how they overtake. Exactly as you described.
That's how I had my first #bicycle accident with a motorist. The #motorcycle cut right in front* of me, from my left* to go right*, but he did it too close and I sort of T-boned his ๐๏ธ bike. Not an exact T, more like a Y.
So dumb. ๐
@my_actual_brain
Well, it's not just #motorcycle riders. It's not uncommon to see #motorists ๐ต๐๏ธ๐๐ป๐๐๐๐ (even #cyclists and #pedestrians) here acting and moving as though they don't see others or don't understand the proper flow of traffic. #CommonSense #MetroManila #traffic
On another note, I've had a few pleasant experiences of ๐๏ธ riders actively* assisting this #TurtleOn2Wheels ๐ซฃ, like a ride marshall, slowing down to block potential danger and telling me "Sige lang, go."

@evelyn @my_actual_brain I love Manila, there is no way on earth I would ride anything with 2 wheels and an engine in the city.
Been around the world and Manila is one of the only place I wonโt drive let alone ride.
@leerayl
Yeah, I don't recommend that visiting* foreigners* drive on our streets. It can get complicated.
#Filipinos are nice and warm people but we do have some* corrupt authorities ๐ฎ and crooks ๐งโโ๏ธ. Add to that bad roads and some vague signage โฉ๏ธ.
Become a local. Learn our ways. Before you drive. ๐คช
Actually, just avoid unnecessary* complications... like #driving. โ๏ธ๐
As for #riding ๐ด, ride with a local friend. #SafetyInNumbers
Aaaaah, just hire a #car with a driver!! ๐
@evelyn I lived there but yeah. I love the city and while I am pretty white, I have been around Filipinos most of my life.
I have a couple stories of corruption and cops specifically around payoff for traffic violations.
I know a lot of people donโt have a clue of the driving situation and rules, it was eye opening to not be able to drive on certain days.
I still feel for people in the city who make massive efforts to just get to work everyday. Hours on broken trains, or 3-4 hour bus rides. Living away from family to work.
I had to drive to a work site yesterday I was complaining about traffic but this has been a reminder some people have it way worse.
