An update on protection of Covid vaccination against death and the political partisan gap on US Death tolls (←curves are still diverging)

@erictopol @flowerpot I think the refrain that “more Republicans are dying from COVID” may be wrong actually.

More people who are poor are dying from COVID. There are more poor people in red states/counties. Poor people, on the whole, don’t vote or at least they don’t vote as regularly.

Wealthy people who live in poorer counties though, tend to vote conservative.

@erictopol @flowerpot So these redder areas full of poorer people have a certain partisan lean because the wealthier people in them who actually vote are voting GOP, but it’s not *those* people who are dying of COVID more. It’s the folks they oppress who don’t participate in the political system much at all.

@MisuseCase @erictopol @flowerpot poor or old. That last plot might need normalizing by something.
@erictopol
Well, look at that! COVID may have some positive political consequences.
@erictopol Proof that Covid is a Chinese plot whose true victims are MAGA.

@erictopol

Republican voters think everyone should die for the Cause.

@erictopol
But thou shall not ever mandate vaccination proclaims the MAGA mob. We demand the freedom to kill grandma.
@erictopol Great data and great thread. Thank you.

@erictopol

It would be dangerous to assume cause and effect.

Much more likely is that low incomes correlate with levels of Trump support and that low incomes mean worse outcomes.

@erictopol

In fact, studies were conducted that showed a higher death rate among Republican VOTERS than among Democratic VOTERS. One such study is cited below. So in this case, poverty isn't as much a factor as being susceptible to the untrue partisan propaganda spread by Trump and the GOP. #Politics #Covid
