You're allowed to post on your blog once every decade, and you don't even need to apologize for it. That's also part of having your own space.

Personal sites aren't a competition, and productivity doesn't have to be a metric.

(note to self)

Oh! And you can redesign it every two months if you want! And be constantly "under construction" forever. It's wild the things that are allowed.
From here on I will only be posting occasional apologies for not posting more.
@mia Yes, as long as you have an RSS feed 😁
@nicod don't want the rss cops on your ass, they'll throw you in rss jail without question
@mia @nicod did someone say RSS police? 🫡
@mia thank you, I actualy struggle a lot with both
@mia Yeah, and if you see a typo in your already published article, you can just correct and repost it.

@mia I'll go one further and say that choosing to not emphasize "being productive" isn't just allowed, it's actually very healthy too!

@mia I’ve been thinking about writing a post titled It’s Okay Not to Blog

I haven’t really gotten around to it yet, but now at least I know that’s okay 😆

@keithjgrant It would almost feel wrong to move that one out of the drafts folder. 😅
@mia @Palleas brb, gonna congratulate President Obama on his victory over Senator Romney.
@mia Things we telk ourselves while also wearing a hair shirt and self-flagelating
@mia thanks, I need this note to self too. Just this week wanted to actually write something but got stuck on the apology part.
@mia I don't blog so much that I don't have a blog, works for me! 🤭
@mia I needed to see this. Thank you.
@mia Oof my guilt over not updating "enough" or "as often as Friend X" needed this.
@mia Boy howdy I needed to hear this!
@mia I initially read this as "You're allowed to post on your blog once every decade [and THAT'S IT]" and I like the energy
@cvennevik Those who post over quota will be punished for sure.
@mia Hah, I needed to hear this. Thanks!
@mia In my experience, once you start apologising (or at least consciously noticing) that you haven't blogged in ages, that means that you're about to start blogging again. If you don't want to blog at all you don't even think of your blog.
@mia Thank you for this 🙏
@mia @lisamelton I finally stopped posting apology posts.
@mia I’m teaching webdesign since 2003 and haven’t written a single blog post. Once a year a I nearly get the energy to do it – but always fluke out.
@mia @housepanther
I don’t mean to be so busy. It’s really not a great sign for me when I’m cranking out so many like this either. ❤️
@mia I've had a blog since 2008 and recently rearranged the posts into year folders. Some years have 20 posts, some just one. I come and go. My thing, my rules.
@mia @chrisplusplus Very true, do what works for you.
@mia thanks for the reminder. I feel less guilty now
@mia I was doing this in the mid-2000s but then my host shut down. Then again a few years later. Etc. I think at this stage I have about 5 blogs that only exist now on the Way Back Machine. That’s okay. No need to look back; the future is where it’s at.

@mia Thanks. This came to me on the evening I finally got around to posting on my Pixelfed again and feeling guilty for not managing a constant pace.

(We don’t do algorithms here. Just post when it feels right!)

@mia I want to believe you but I read too many "build your personal brand" books in the mid-2000s. I need to go see a deprogrammer 😅
@mia I made one blog post complaining about Chrome and WEI and haven't had any good ideas since
@mia Oh good! (I last posted in 2015)
@mia It took me a long to drop the feeling that I have to post every month, or once per quarter or so. I think that's a big advantage over Substack because paying subscribers can expect regular posts. It is fine if someone wants to commit to regular writing, but I can't for different reasons.
@mia i built a personal blog with a headless CMS and a SSG, but I've only used it seriously like once. It isn't even that good compared to other CMS's cause I don't even know how to implement tagging or sort by date, and I don't really know enough javascript to do most of that.
@mia I'm bookmarking this for future reference
@mia That’s my personal blogging credo. 🤭

@mia @jwildeboer

I’ve never understood people apologizing to complete strangers for _not_ doing unpaid and voluntary activities.

It’s your time, life and site, with you paying the bills.
