If someone you follow boosts too much stuff, you can hide just their boosts from your timeline by doing the following:

1. Go to the person's profile in Mastodon
2. Click the button with three dots (looks like ︙ or ⋯)
3. Click "Hide Boosts" or "Hide Reblogs" (they mean the same thing)

The person will not know you've done this, and it won't hide their own posts.

If you change your mind and want to see their boosts, repeat the same process but select "Show boosts".

@FediTips I've wondered if it might be useful to suggest an option on Mastodon to voluntarily mark a post one has made as less important than average?

@rodneylives

That wouldn't really help here as it's about boosts by other people?

@FediTips Yeah, I was speaking more generally. If it was possible to mark a post as less important, and people could choose not to show those posts, it could be a voluntary way to reduce timeline clutter.

@rodneylives

Interesting idea 👍

To some extent that's what the "unlisted" post visibility is for, it lets anyone see a post but keeps it out of public timelines so it doesn't clog them up. (More info at https://fedi.tips/who-can-see-my-posts-in-mastodon-how-do-i-send-dms-in-mastodon/)
