First movie of 2024 was #IndianaJones #DialOfDestiny
It’s not awful but it’s also really not good.
Someone was v lazy and just put all the highlights from the previous films and condensed them into one.
The young Harrison Ford CGI was weird. The plot unoriginal. Dialogue was boring. Lots of casual racism. The only saving grace was Phoebe Waller-Bridge who I always find enjoyable to watch.
The ending was just ridiculous and there’s a HUGE hole in the plot.

Second movie was #QuizLady
A light harmless comedy starring the brilliant #Awkwafina who is becoming one of my favourite actors.
I loved some of the subtle jokes about race that could have been dialled up more. I thought it was holding back a lot on the wit. But compared to some “comedies” that Hollywood churns out these days it has a brain and the right level of cynicism v sentimentality.

Number 3: #TheKiller
Meh.
I know what he was going for but I found it all a bit pretentious tbh.
And it bugged me why we never found out what the obsession with #TheSmiths was all about.
Easily forgettable.

Fourth film was #GoodGrief
I love #SchittsCreek and love #DanielLevy so was slightly disappointed with this film.
Maybe I was expecting too much. Great cast, lovely sentiments, I cried, but it was a bit slow in parts.
Needed something to make it shine.

Number 5 was the film #Foe with the brilliant Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal.
This was promoted as a #SciFi but in reality it’s a film about the humanity of relationships set in a dystopian future.
It’s v slow and tedious and even boring in places. It was saved by the performances of Ronan and Mescal. The cinematography is gorgeous.
But I was v disappointed.

No 6 is the powerful #SocietyOfTheSnow
This is the true story of an Uruguayan rugby team who became stranded in the Andes after their plane crashed.
I was interested to see how it compares to #Alive the 1993 Hollywood film of the same event.
The latest version is so much better. You go through every emotion with the characters. I was exhausted after watching it but glad I did.
Some excellent performances.

Stunning cinematography and it makes me want to go live in the desert but I just could not get past the racism, white saviourism and lack of women characters.
It’s DEFINITELY of it’s time.

Watching 2021 version of #Dune again, for the fourth time.
It’s stunning. Every frame is a visual masterpiece. I keep seeing more and more every time I watch it. Love it.
I would like to give it a 10/10 but have to knock points off because of the ridiculous use of the bagpipes and the parasol!

The ending was good but the rest was a bit meh. Didn’t grab my attention as much as I was expecting.

God I love this film. I watch it about once a year. Still drool over Heath Ledger (what a loss, brilliant actor), still want Kat to be my best friend. She’s such an adorable character. I feel every moment of her poem.
It’s one of the better teenage rom coms of the 90s.
Give it a watch if you’ve never seen it. You might like it.

Story of a wife being accused of murdering her husband.
Found this an emotional rollercoaster. It dissects the complexities of relationships, marriage and parenthood.
Excellent performances.
I was exhausted after watching it. It was really good but I really couldn’t watch it again.

I didn’t know much about this before I watched it and haven’t read the book. I was expecting and hoping it was going to give us a history on the different districts and the conflict with the Capitol but instead it was more of a Snow origin story which just didn’t really grasp me.
It was ok but very forgettable.

I was sceptical as to whether Timothée Chalamet would be strong enough to be a leader but I was wrong.

A Dystopian/Sci-Fi/Thriller starring John Goodman.
Earth is invaded by an alien species who start depleting the planet of natural resources so a group of Chicago humans decide to rebel.
Better than expected. Slow to begin but an exciting ending. Not bad.

I’ve seen this before but forgot most of it.
Clooney is still so so frickin hot. It’s actually unsettling how hot & sexy he is, even with a dodgy moustache.
It’s a very twee movie even though it’s based on a true story.
If it wasn’t for Clooney I’d probably pass on it again.

I do like a good fairytale gone dark type of movie and this absolutely fits into that genre.
Millie Bobby Brown is, as always, terribly dramatic, which can be off putting sometimes but in saying that it’s an ok action/fantasy.
Can’t stop thinking of #ThePrincessBride though with the appearance of Robin Wright. But that’s as far as similarities go.
It was grand.

I just HAD to watch it. Yes, it’s v v v bad but it was enjoyable to spot all the places it was filmed in and around Bray, my hometown.
Powerscourt, Kilruddery and the Windgates side of Bray Head which apparently is right beside the Cliffs of Moher! Who knew!

The story of the first ever Black congresswoman Shirley Chisholm.
Excellent cast but there was something missing from this. It all seemed very diluted. I wanted an inspirational political biography but it failed in making me feel excited for her as a such a historic figure.

It was exactly what you’d expect.
Child loved it.
I’ll watch practically anything with #JackBlack in it. I love him.
Grand for a bit of Easter hols fun.

Beautifully shot, brilliant performances but it’s absolutely not a feminist film as some (male) critics have cited.
It’s absolutely filmed through the male gaze with the male idea of what sexual awakening in women looks like.
Emma Stone is fabulous but I’m disappointed her performances were often ruined by literal titillation.
Disappointing.
6/10 mostly for the performances, costumes, sets and cinematography.

I thought I’d hate it and it would be terrible and overly sensationalistic and too nostalgic but I was so wrong. A beautiful film that was so sensitive to the Troubles.
The young actor who played the part of Buddy was absolutely superb.
I loved it.

True story about *THAT* Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew.
I’m not sure exactly what the purpose or intent of the film is.
If it was to turn the women producers of the interview into heroes it didn’t really work. And it didn’t go far enough to highlight exactly how deeply Prince Andrew was involved with Epstein and Maxwell.
It was meh.
