In retrospect, the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer callback “You’ll go down in history! (like Columbus)” suggests some deeply upsetting backstory for Mr. Rudolph.

Call The Hague.

Seriously.

@Catvalente a chanting army of kids with ropes working to topple his statues on Dec 24 while the adults watch in horror
@Catvalente I think we used to sing (like Napoleon) which is similarly upsetting.
@greg @Catvalente we had "like Napoleon," but he did fight against the English so we may have meant it as a compliment
@artbyailbhe @Catvalente I think I want some kind of "fuck imperialism" tshirt.
@Catvalente We can fix this with a minimal edit!
@Catvalente huh, I never heard anything like that in the versions I heard/sang
@Catvalente My daughter (9yo, East Canada) says "like the Flintstones", which is weird but less problematic.
@Catvalente Of course, he claimed that he had discovered the Island of Misfit Toys when it was clearly already inhabited.

@Catvalente

Maybe those reindeer games were more like the Hunger Games

@Catvalente My elementary school music teacher taught us that Rudolph went down in history "like John Paul Jones." You're supposed to sing it (G A G B-flat if you're in the key of C).

I had no idea until today that there were other options!

@Catvalente
A dear friend had a dark variation of the song as "Rudolph the Red Nosed Redeemer"""

Sadly, the lyrics are lost in the permafrost...
