The president of #COP28, Sultan al-Jaber, has been using his seat at the 'table' to lobby for more oil and gas extraction
Someone must have forgotten to inform al-Jaber that at a COP you are meant to want to reduce oil and gas extraction
Maybe he got confused and thought he was doing his day job, as a CEO of an oil company
A real-life parody of corruption. We are hoping that a bunch of people that regularly lie, will somehow stop lying and do the right thing for the climate
They sell the opposite image
That's a typical sales technique or corporate strategy. Do some "good" (e.g., 1% of the right action) that the business promotes as a cover story for the 99% of doing the wrong thing
Why does the general public often fall for this simple con? Because it's simpler to have faith in the sales pitch. In other words, they want to believe that the people on "TV" in posh suits are as honest as they seem
In capitalism, the dodgy salespeople are rich
Well said. That 1% "good thing" is rocketed to the forefront of media too which gives them an additional boost (corporate media of course). And the 99% of burning down the world will continue as always.
That "1% + \ - is typically the aspect, whether it's a true virtue or not, that is used to sell polluting products & activities (e.g., in Adverts)
For example, think what a honest fossil fuel TV advert would be like ☠️ (inc. ICEV commercials & adverts that feature products that burn fuel, in general)

Either kick out the #FossilFuel lobby or start something new with the teeth to act.
Every country with a waterfront is playing Russian Roulette with its future.
Maybe #CDNpoli doesn't care about potential loss of our maritime provinces (#climatechange can be far more lethal than serial killers), or BC, flooding its own arable land to create otherwise unnecessary electricity to support new #LNG & #fracking.
To paraphrase "John Kerry, USA climate "leader", said that Sultan al-Jaber was a top guy and we should trust his commitment to mitigating #climatechange "
Well, the evidence suggests that Mr Kerry is a bad judge of character because lobbying companies whilst being the COP president, for more oil and gas deals, clearly shows what are al-Jabers primary priorities.
What these fuel CEOs are "good" at is acting the part. Performing a speech that seems sincere
