If you are annoyed by people who boost too much (like me 😁 ), you need not mute them! Just go to their profile and choose behind the 3 dots "hide boosts from @ xy". This is also the easiest way to get only original posts by a followee.

#Mastodon #feditips #boost #boosts #share #mute #followee #timeline

@NatureMC

I didn't notice, you were such a big booster.

But this is a useful trick, so I boosted it.

@NatureMC this is a great tip! TYVM

@john @NatureMC

Yeah, now it just needs a "hide boosts from people that boost their own posts" option too.
.... or have an option that auto replies "yeah, i heard you the first time" 😜

@chewie @john @NatureMC I'm guilty of that, but I try to do it once only, 12hrs (approx) after the first time. And only on posts I think are important, not trivial stuff like cute cats. ;-)
@NatureMC Hm - I was so happy to read your tip, but it does not seem to work on zirk.us - is that server specific somehow?
I tried it with somebody who is on socel.net

@NatureMC

That’s good advice! I do a lot of boosting because I agree with so many of the things.I’m boosting this so people can decide for themselves on this.

@NatureMC Usually, I like to see boosts of people I follow. Even if they are lots of. What I'd really want is to see each only _once_ ... I am most annoyed when I get the same post boosted into my timeline for the Nth time. I'd really expect there to be some hidden logic feasible like "filter out the post if user has already done something on that post (bookmark, star, reply)"... is there also such a setup somewhere?

@ceha @NatureMC

In the settings on the browser version, there’s an option to not show multiple boosts of the same post that come close in time.

At least that’s available on my instance tenforward.social. Given how much Star Trek fans can get into cycles of reboosts, not to mention bots to make sure everyone is reached, it kind of essential.

@NatureMC note: doesn't work on boosts of their own posts for some weird reason.
@NatureMC
I'd say the majority of people I follow were boosted by someone I already followed. I probably would not have found them otherwise.

@NatureMC

Wait, that's a thing?! How did I not know about this?

@NatureMC I like the word “followee”, and move to replace the word “leader” with it in all contexts.

@NatureMC
I don't mind seeing boosts people have done for posts from other people, I get that.

Boosting your own posts seems a bit "look at me!!". Not sure what the technical term is.

@NatureMC

Rather than having to fiddle with settings per-person, I'd love to have a separate links / URLS for "things directly posted by everyone you follow" and "things boosted by everyone you follow".

At least I think I would. :)

@xy

@NatureMC I like the boosted toots that arrive in my TL, they're often interesting.

But it's nice that mastodon has so many ways to finetune and filter what gets shown!

@NatureMC there is a irony of seeing this though a boost ..
@NatureMC It feels somewhat ironic to boost this.
