GOP Party Chair Ronna McDaniel said the party would support Donald Trump as their presidential nominee, even if a jury convicted of a crime, if their voters chose him.

Do you hear how crazy that sounds? Their party has lost all moral bearing years ago.

@georgetakei

Political parties aren't mentioned in the Constitution, once they start rallying behind criminals they're just gangs in the organized crime sense.

@georgetakei The GOP is a zombie party that no longer exists to serve its constituency, but instead one man. We've got a front row seat view into understanding the psychology of early 1930s Germany.
@georgetakei They are new no-nothing party, the whigs on their way out.

@georgetakei

A political party often has some morally vacant people within it. Today's Republican party is unique in two aspects, in regards to this:

1) That so many of those morally vacant people have ascended to the leadership of the Republicans, and

2) that those being led have not left the party.

It's not hard to oppose such a party. As a matter of fact, it is more of a duty AND a privilege.

@skydog @georgetakei It certainly looks like it's a duty.

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

@georgetakei
OK, they don’t think it’s right that a criminal is running for President😉, but the majority rules (in this case) and there’s nothing they can do about it 🙄
@georgetakei
They lost it the moment they declared everyone needs to jingoistically follow a coked-up chimpanzee that allowed the 9/11 attacks to happen while he tried to claim he's literate.
@georgetakei I don't think it is'crazy', I think it is a fascistic strategy trying to normalze a thug. All dictators are criminals, thugs and most likely narcissistic socio/pychopaths. IMHO we must not normalize this as crazy. Call it by its name: FASCISM

@georgetakei let me just say something is deeply wrong with US just in general, if there’s nothing to actually prevent him from running after everything he’s done.

Like, if it’s entirely up to the party to decide wether put him up after, you know, orchestrating a coup attempt, then maybe y’all deserve him.

@prettyhuman @georgetakei I was with you right up till you suggested we might deserve him. That's victim blaming. Do you think we all just blithely ignore or accept the fact that there aren't sufficient protections in place to prevent this? What am I, an ordinary citizen, supposed to do besides voting for leaders who would address that gap, and pointing it out to others so they can do the same? And if that isn't enough, what then? Violence? Many of us are unwilling passengers on this impending train wreck.

@hosford42
Those are very valid points. Thank you for challenging me on this. I regret and apologice for asserting that you’d deserve that.

It is a wicked problem. Trump is a genie you can’t just put back in the bottle once he’s out.

@prettyhuman It is truly a wicked problem. And I've been trying to stuff that orange clown back in the bottle from the moment he first announced his presidential bid. I hope we make it through this.
@georgetakei
What if he walked onto 5th Avenue and shot some random person in the middle of the day in front of cameras?
@georgetakei
Lost moral bearings? Huh
@caspercdn @georgetakei yeah, Trump didn’t destroy their moral bearings. Trump exists because they decided 45 years ago that winning was the only thing that mattered, making “moral bearings” irrelevant.
@georgetakei What did you expect from morons?
@georgetakei
I can hear my Mom saying "If your friends decided to jump off a cliff, would you jump too?"
@Nazani @georgetakei Exactly what my mum used to say, Australia in the 1950s. 😄 Eternal wisdom!

@georgetakei

Ronna McDaniel is the spokesperson for the Republican billionaire donors backing Trump and his anti-democracy movement.

When billionaires like Robert Bigelow and Bernie Marcus willingly make public announcements of their Trump endorsements, you know some serious money is backing Trump from the shadows.

Trump picks up backing from two major GOP donors

Former President Trump on Thursday picked up support from two major GOP donors, serving the latest blow to his GOP rivals as they struggle to make a dent in his sizable lead. Robert Bigelow, one of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) most prominent donors, said he is switching his support from the Florida governor to…

@Npars01 @georgetakei
Shocking that these people are willing to publicly support fascism.

@temeraria @georgetakei

These billionaires believe they'll be in the history books.

They mislabeled themselves as "philanthropists" while really being fascists.

These billionaires are as deluded as those who thought the Roman or British Empires would last forever.

They resemble the opportunists who thought the Third Reich would last a thousand years.

@Npars01 @temeraria @georgetakei A gentle reminder about the German bourgeoisie:

The financiers and factory owners were not held accountable for war crimes after WW2

Neither were their counterparts in America, nor was the German American Bund (except one guy, who went to jail for embezzling from this upstanding and legitimate organization)

So yes those opportunists' kids and grand-kids are still around, born into Nazi wealth and opportunity-finding

@Npars01 @temeraria @georgetakei Lesson being if we ever exorcise Trump, Bigelow and Marcus and everyone else in the Freedom Caucus's rolodex will be fine

@pleaseclap @temeraria @georgetakei

These billionaires will just find themselves a different puppet.

DeSantis was supposed to be that next wannabe despot but he lacks the charisma necessary for a Nazi leader.

Glenn Youngkin, Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, are being auditioned.

@Npars01 @georgetakei Billionaires are backing (/buying) Trump, an individual, who is utterly incapable of responsibly & decently holding any power, which he's publicly proving every single day?

Jaw-dropping!

@ArenaCops @Npars01 @georgetakei

I’m thinking he’s doing this for power and for Vladimir Putin.

@georgetakei

Ronna.
The Chair that lost the gop everything.

@georgetakei The party lost credibility when #RonaldReagan campaigned on the US being as strong as the bear (USSR) even though all intelligence showed the USSR economy was failing.

@georgetakei Her alternative is to resign. She wishes to be paid.

@georgetakei While it's certainly perverse, I'd call it a strategy rather than craziness. Trump characterises himself as a hero under attack from evil players, who include everyone in government and the justice system. A persecuted hero is still a hero. The appearance of martyrdom and hope that he'll one day prevail is what excites his big following.

Attached video: Luciano Pavarotti sings the famous aria from "Turandot", "I Shall Prevail", popularly known as "Nessun Dorma".

If Trump could sing, he'd sing this.

@georgetakei The words convey one message to one set of listeners, but convey a different message to other listeners.

McDaniel is telling the billionaires to not support other GOP candidates and to not bother the RNC with suggestions that they support other candidates.

Edit to add: McDaniel is also telling Trump that she's loyal, and telling the far-far-right folks there's no need for any outsiders - just keep voting for those corporate big-money GOP candidates.

@georgetakei it sounds about as crazy as an ongoing genocide, while we all wonder why our “choice” for king is Trump or an impotent patsy.
@georgetakei P01135809 Never Ever POTUS . This guy is not fit. It is intuitively obvious that he is not fit. Hillary was/is right. Our nation should not make the same mistake. Mercy🙏🏽
@georgetakei Wait, Ronald McDonald is the chair of the GOP?
@georgetakei so their party will NOT abide by the voice of the people (say, Ohio abortion law) but WILL abide by the voice of their people to sell our souls to a Hitler-like power? 🤦🏼‍♀️
@georgetakei No. It sounds exactly like representative government. And Ronna McDaniel sucks.

@georgetakei

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, What?

They have a pool of candidates.

Primaries are Months away.

Is Ronna allowed to just blot out the citizen voters of the primaries and declare for a candidate in November 2023?

@georgetakei She clearly doesn’t give two hoots about what her ex-brother in law thinks.

@georgetakei There's no point in asking, you'll get no reply

@georgetakei Here’s hoping the crazy people don’t win.
@georgetakei "Oh, but Uncle George, it's all a political witch-hunt." You know what makes this political? The Rep party refuses to acknowledge that they installed a known con-man, criminal fascist in the highest office in the land. That's what makes this political.
@georgetakei I think they want him arrested. It's a feature to show he is being oppressed.

@georgetakei

He was already convicted of rape and also he was already found guilty of fraud. The current proceedings in NYC are not to determine guilt, but rather how much he is going to be fined.

@georgetakei

Part of their moral collapse was hiring Ms. McDaniel.

@georgetakei
I didn't have to wait for her to tell me. I still can't believe they are going to do it, even though I know they are.

https://smotus.substack.com/p/county-chairs-coming-off-the-fence?publication_id=1327720&utm_campaign=email-post-title&r=2fku The spectacular concept of the Republican Party running a convicted felon for President grows ever closer to reality. There was never a point prior to 2020 when anyone I know would say this was in any way possible, and now, it is all but inevitable.
