Many will know that feeling..
@tveskov many of my dreams died a long time ago
@tveskov jeg har et lige nu!
Og der ligger forskellige selvhostede tjenester på det. Og det bliver en krig at omlægge...

@tveskov

I have 2 days to make this decision for myself

@tveskov
Lol it was a fun go and learn some stuff but iam not renewing the vps.
@tveskov Same shit, but I have to take decision about couple short domains (one-three- letters) and that is not just $12 😣

@tveskov I got a nice offer for one of mine and took it... 20 years after I first registered it. As investments go, it worked out nicely. As dreams go, not so much.

And then there's the domain I registered 25 years ago that I can never let go, because I have like 80 different e-mail addresses there that I have used for website logins.

@tveskov I still pay 4 "useless" domains from archived projects
@tveskov or you renew it because you once used email on it and can’t remember if you killed all accounts linked to that email.
@tveskov I feel personally attacked
@tveskov @timixretroplays I'm in this picture and I don't like it! 😵‍💫
@tveskov Oof. That reminds me, where is everybody moving now that Google sold off it's domains service?
@tveskov This is how Umbrellix morphed from a vaporware OS into... whatever it is now. ^L
@tveskov Just did this today, though not because I still want to do the thing the domain was for, but I didn’t want some schmuck taking it. I let it run to the ‘It will expire in seven days’ point though.
@tveskov There is a reason they use automatic renewal to make thier money
@tveskov @benolot hey i kept renewing it and now i run a social network node
@tveskov @todd This is too funny and too real 😂.
@tveskov thanks to the activitypub protocol, a new option has recently become available
@tveskov I've got one I might sell to pay some taxes. They aren't all dead dreams.
@tveskov Some have pushed the button on the right several times before taking their by then more substantial loss and pushing left. No names mentioned here. 😬
@tveskov nowadays followed by SSL certificate renewal….
@tveskov I killed 7 of those dreams about a month ago. Some of them have been with me for more than 15 years ...

@jrossstocholm @tveskov

A mere 15? I’m looking at 20 to 28 years for a bunch of domains with projects not launched. . . yet

(Luckily a couple years ago somebody paid over six figures for a domain I bought in 1989, pre-web, back when it took months to plead to NSFnet for a dot com domain.)

@brianstorms @tveskov coming to think about it, my first registration was from 1998, so effectively 25 years 😊

@jrossstocholm @tveskov

The 25-year domain club: where every member quietly has at least once if not more often felt like a chump, paying so much money over so many years to hold on to one or more intangible digital assets not much different, perhaps, than NFTs 😱

@alien @tveskov todos los años por el último trimestre del año cuando se renuevan todos los dominios que gestiono, sí. 🌚🌚🌚
@tveskov Glad to see I'm not the only one 😁
@tveskov Just pay for multiple years at a time, so you have to make that decision less often 😄
@tveskov oh, this reminded me that I need to actually renew it :) Thanks!
@tveskov I just press both at the same time.
yes it is dead, but who cares, I'm not giving up my domain
@tveskov I actually did the hard thing and canceled one domain renewal.
@tveskov @ianrosewrites I only see one button there. What’s he stressed out about?
@tveskov image description (you may be able to update your post to make it more accessible): sweating and choosing between two buttons meme, where the options are “admit to yourself your dream is dead” or “pay $12”
@[email protected] OK, c'est un défi !
Je l'ajoute à la liste de mes projets prio, na !
(car oui j'ai un nom de domaine comme ça qui croupit dans un coin, en vue d'un site, un jour).
@tveskov I'd love to boost this, but I don't boost things that lack alt text because I have some followers who use screen readers... Could I convince You to edit some in?
@tveskov bahaha I'm just now putting my domain to use that I've owned my entire adult life 🤣
@tveskov I love this, AND I have no idea how URL speculators/collectors handle this problem, especially now that the amount of TLDs has exploded.
@tveskov Fffffuuuuuck this hit close to home
@tveskov Still more dignified than paying $8 for a Twitter checkmark.
@tveskov just test it on a subdomain of your main and then migrate once it (btw never) gets out of alpha

@tveskov Yes, also known as the

Nerd’s Sunk Cost Fallacy

@tveskov My rule is 2 years to start work, else I have to let the domain go.
