The road to fascism is lined with moderates and people on the internet telling you to stop overreacting.
@Miriamm is it true or are you maybe overreacting ?
@Miriamm and liberals guarding the way. #kosa
@Miriamm I think about the Letter from Birmingham Jail a lot.

@Miriamm

"Trump isn't a fascist, stop over-reacting." - 2016

H/t to @ccferrie for the excellent image.

@Miriamm there is no way to get credit for reacting properly. Either fascism comes, and you underreacted, or it doesn't come, and you overreacted. The only answer is to tell people who tone police to fuck off and fight like hell.
@Miriamm scary how quicky certain narratives become normalised and how politicians get away with things; they’re not even trying to hide it anymore.
@Miriamm Moderates which swallowed lies with the whole bait, hook and sinker. Remember history, Hitler stopped euthanasia of metal patients when there was a lot of public pressure. He just lied to people. Even that Russian skunk is lying to everybody.

@Miriamm

And in the history of history, telling someone to "Calm down" is the sure key to them not calming down.

@Miriamm and hipsters telling you to vote for them (no one).

@Miriamm

Moderates, as in the non-alt-left/alt-right... the "Reasonable" part of both those spectrum? Or did you maybe mean centrists? I mean id disagree either way but very weird to say being reasonable/moderate (not ideologically extreme) is going to destroy the world...

@freemo @Miriamm
How about in the sense that MLK used it when he said that the "great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate."

@jargoggles

Ahh so we arent talking moderate in the political sense at all, MLK when he spoke of "white moderates" in this quote clearly was not talking in terms of political spectrum.

In fact when MLK did speak of parties he made quite clear he himself was a centrist:

“I don’t think the Republican Party is a party full of the almighty God, nor is the Democratic Party. They both have weaknesses. And I’m not inextricably bound to either party.” -- MLK Jr.

@Miriamm

@freemo @Miriamm

The current status quo, this business as usual that we take for granted as normal and ordinary and comfortable, is already destroying the world.

Seen the weather lately?

People have very, very different ideas of what is "reasonable".

@violetmadder

What are you on about. The damage to global warming is largely perpetuated by non-moderates. For example the alt-right, one of the least moderate political categories is also the most aggressive against green policies.

Likewise, thankfully there isnt much communism left, but when it was more common communism was likewise one of the worst offenders of mother nature.

@Miriamm

@Miriamm Indeed. My politically savvy grandmother told me this 60 years ago. She lived in Hamburg through WW1 and WW2. She told me the common attitude in the 30's was "Oh, Hitler? Don't worry, he's just rabble-rousing. He doesn't really mean that stuff he says."

@Miriamm Read Devin Zane-Shaw yet?

"Liberal antifascists are in bad faith because they refuse to see their complicity in enabling the fascist who opportunistically invokes free speech to further a far right agenda." - Devin Zane-Shaw the philosophy of antifascism

@Miriamm remember when Nate Silver told the whole world it was just one little speech and there was no way anything bad would happen on Jan 6th?

@Miriamm We've been sounding alarms about the trajectory of the American Right since before Reagan and everyone who did has been called alarmist and marginalized since.

Even now as we're proven right, somehow that's used as some kind of proof we were [something, something]...

@Miriamm The road to fascism is lined with Twitter-like social media…
@Miriamm
Fascism also thrives on rich people who want you to believe things that benefit them. The wealthy own and use the MSM to put their message forward. Many folks do not have the drive, time or money to seek real truth, instead, many rely on free, manipulative news full of half-lies designed to comfort, reassure and guide those who are living desperate lives created by those same lies.

@Miriamm The road to fascism and climate collaps is lined with moderates and people on the internet telling you to stop overreacting.

#climatecollapse #socialcollapse

@Miriamm and the road to anarchy is lined with people making assumptions about what being a moderate is, as if seeing positives in other ideologies prevents you from taking a stand when those ideologies go to their extremes. Playing this game of labeling people that don't share your "purity" is simply divisive and plays into the hands of the fascists.
