The story of why Elon Musk fired most of the election integrity team after saying he would expand it is stupider than I even imagined. The team's manager liked a tweet calling Elon a dipshit.

Elon Fires Half Of ExTwitter’s Election Integrity Team, Because A Manager Liked A Tweet Calling Him A Fucking Dipshit

There is no doubt that it’s not always easy to figure out what social media websites should do about election disinformation. There are those who believe that websites need to very actively remove …

@evacide oh my god what a dipshit
@evacide BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Because Elmu.

@evacide Hold my beer

Going to see if I can really piss him off over on birdshite

#ElmoIsADipshit

@evacide Actions you perform when you are DEFINITELY not a dipshit

@evacide

Here's a Mastodon Toot they might like:

Elon Musk is a dipshit.

@GoatRoper @evacide Indeed, Elon Musk is a *fucking* dipshit. Just to be perfectly clear.
@evacide We all expected Elon to have fired the left half of the team, obviously, but he always manages to surpass our disappointment.
@evacide is calling your boss a dipshit legally protected workplace speech? asking for a friend

@shadowfacts That would be a really interesting question if that had happened, but it didn't. One guy got fired because he liked a tweet that criticized his boss. A bunch of other people got fired because THEIR MANAGER liked a tweet that criticized the boss.

For extra irony, that same boss had publicly offered to pay the legal fees of any person who had been fired because of something they had tweeted, which indicates that he does not think this is the right thing to do.

@evacide hmm, that too seems like the sort of thing that should maybe be protected? like, if I were to like a tweet saying "our boss is a piece of shit, we should unionize to avoid getting jerked around so much," that definitely seems like it should be protected

also, lmao, I didn't even put this together with the legal fees thing, that's hilarious
@evacide musk needs to be ignored - permanently and without prejudice.
@discgolf @evacide only way that'll happen is if he's sealed in a capsule and launched out towards the asteroid belt, with no outgoing comms. c'mon Twilight Zone, make it happen
@jplebreton @evacide your words, or, from your lips to god's ears.
The thing that surprises me more is that there was an "election integrity team" in the first place.
@evacide Good grief how sensitive can this man child/king baby be?
@evacide didn’t he offer to compensate anyone who had been fired over a tweet? Sounds like this guy would qualify
@evacide Elmo is the tRump of tech.
@evacide sounds like dipshit behaviour to me
@evacide Right Wingers are the most thin skinned losers in the history of the species. This wouldn’t be a problem except that so many of them don’t know any way to respond except violence. We’re giving a toddler adult proportions, strength, and access to guns then wondering why the giant baby with no emotional intelligence responds to everything by shooting it.

@evacide

#dipshit is the meme and hashtag, protect the American democracy, empty out xitter

@evacide Or maybe he doesn't want a team checking for #election integrity....
@MessagingMatters @evacide Elon Musk appropriately removed an unnecessary team. Our government is ultimately responsible for election integrity and not private corporations or social media.
@thadguidry @evacide You miss the point. Giant platforms need to police themselves. Unless you're suggesting government do it for them, which would run afoul of the #FirstAmendment.
@MessagingMatters @evacide election integrity (vote counting, upholding election laws, etc.) are government affairs, not the responsibility of social media. But social media, like all media that people may/may not watch, with or without misinformation… can certainly gather or reduce voting. Elon removed an unnecessary team, and instead focused on a different team… people themselves (community notes).

@evacide

Elon's ego is more delicate than a baby bird, made of porcelain, that's been frozen in nitrogen, set atop a crooked ladder.

@evacide @Gargron he was going to do that anyway. He is systematically removing anyone who can “blow a whistle” when he uses his platform to put his thumb on the scales of democracy. All part of his plan…

#TwitterMustDie

@evacide Oh lolz....

I just love this. Elon's the man. Either get in fricken' line with MY COMPANY's vision or GTFO!

Just ask #Bob FOSS he saw it too 😛

If any CEO didn't run their company that way they shouldn't be running their company.
#tallship #CEO #executive management #Owner #bizniz #lolz

.

@evacide Looks like the team's manager had a strong grip on reality and was a good fit to run an integrity team.

@evacide they are a smart company & it’s irrelevant whether that news legit or not.

Changes nothing your app has the potential to accomplish. And it’s already accomplished a hell of a lot.

Keep going ,, design design design

@evacide Do all billionaires have such fragile egos?
@evacide fired for liking an objectively true tweet

@evacide So Elon has just confirmed beyond all reasonable doubt that he is in fact, a dipshit.

We knew it, but it's nice to have confirmation.

@evacide That was just an excuse to do it. Not the actual reason. If it was the reason he wouldn’t fire the team and he would’ve replaced the guy he’s done neither.
@evacide How Walter Isaacson spent 2 years with the guy and came away thinking “he’s a really smart guy” is beyond me.
@evacide After the attempt on Hitler’s life he had 4000 executed. Same play book.
