Here's the latest of my #projects: https://ooh.directory , a collection of hundreds of blogs.

I was tired of hearing "no body blogs any more" and wanted to show that there are so. many. blogs!

I have loads more blogs and features to add yet, and I hope you find something interesting.

@philgyford @OohDirectory nice! I've submitted mine.
BTW, some of the colours are a bit hard to read (Firefox).
@Edent Ah yes, thanks. That's dark mode which, inevitably, I kept forgetting to check as I tweaked other stuff. I'll get on it.
@philgyford You love to see it!
@philgyford I posted it to HN and it's already #2, sorry! https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33719983
Ooh.directory | Hacker News

@philgyford I love how much it embraces the early 2000s Yahoo! Directory / DMOZ vibe
@simon Thanks! I have never been sure if that's actually a good idea, or merely nostalgia, or that those directories re-wired my brain so that I can only think that way now.
@philgyford @simon i think it’s good because i’ve been wanting to use RSS readers more but not has enough to shove in them to bother
@philgyford Oh, this is fantastic! Nice job!
@philgyford I am engaged with this content
@undermanager We thank you for your engagement at this time.
@philgyford I have a woodworking blog... is there a place for it in ooh?
@hoco If there's not there should be! Feel free to submit it without a category and I'll find it a home.
@philgyford nice! Suggested a few blogs from my own collection. I am firm believer in directories. Human curation solve a different problem than google and other search engines
@yashasolutions Thanks for the suggestions. I have quite a queue to get through :)

@philgyford this is so lovely! Thank you for making this, I’m already finding long lost feeds.

Not sure if there’s a way to do this that I’ve missed: would it be too cluttering to surface the RSS feed link at the top level of the listing (ie not behind the disclosure button)?

@shajith Thank you! That's definitely possible and I've changed my mind a few times.

My current thinking is that I want it to be as uncluttered as possible for browsing but, if you decide you want to take action and subscribe, then you have to click anyway.

But nearly all the blogs have the feed URL marked up in their HTML, so you can often subscribe with just the main site URL, depending on your feed reader.

@philgyford that makes sense, and I was going to just stick the URL into NetNewsWire but decided to root around for a feed link.

I suppose “subscribe to this blog” is not a primary enough action to stick those little RSS icons on each line, maybe?

Either ways, thank you for thinking this through too!

@shajith Yes, I *assume* people won't be subscribing to all the blogs they see, so it doesn't seem like something that needs to be always accessible. But if more people ask about it I'm flexible :)
@philgyford love it! Also on iOS Firefox:
@schmudde Sorry about that. Did you have the form page open for quite a while before submitting? Because that would probably cause the error.
@philgyford oh I’ll just try again. Letting you know just in case you’re missing valuable submissions in the Hacker News flood. ;)

@philgyford and the answer is no, I did not have the page open for a while. I opened the page, took a look around and submitted.

I’ll grab some of the feeds when I’m back on desktop tomorrow and have my RSS reader ready.

@schmudde Great. If the form still causes trouble, just email me the links.
@philgyford Yep. Worked just fine on desktop. Thanks for putting this together.
@philgyford Thanks for the directory. So many blogs and interesting ideas, so little time!
@philgyford nice! Should really write more, so this is another nudge in that direction
@philgyford This is excellent. Big up to the RSS massive 😃 ✊

@philgyford @anildash

@philgyford I'm lazy, someone please tell me about a cool blog on there
@philgyford Rediscovering RSS has been a big plus for me this year. Thanks for making this! 👏
@philgyford Great info thanks. A great place to get lost for hours.
@philgyford I never stopped following Gruber, Kottke, and Andy Baio via RSS! It helped make my daily serving of the internet less “infinite buffet”
@philgyford this is wonderful! I've just submitted my own blog, I hope that's all right 🤓
@philgyford this is lovely (and beautiful on my phone)
@philgyford this is a pretty neat initiative, but is it possible to get blogs from a certain language?
@pacha They’re 99% English at the moment I’m afraid. Thinking about how to manage others given I speak very little else.
@philgyford if you will consider adding @bespacific blog to your excellent directory. #ThankYou #blog #Law #Technology #LegalResearch
@bespacific Feel free to use the submission form.
@philgyford
Looking forward to a deep dive.

@philgyford Say is there a reason you don't do food?

Some of us blog about that.

@adapples I assume you mean @OohDirectory ? And other than the Food & Drink category? https://ooh.directory/blogs/recreation/food-and-drink/

@philgyford It’s always blogs and vlogs and pimps. When we finish figuring out how to make sites earn a ‘non-profit’ status before they ‘share’ social media status? That’s when we might figure out too much.
