I saw this car question, if you had a million dollars to buy three cars what would you get. I couldn’t even think of three cars I wanted that could add up to million without a Gordon Murray car.
My question is if you had unlimited money but we’re limited to a 3 car garage at what price point do you tap out and stop wanting to spend. For me, I would be embarrassed to be in a modern rolls, it’s just not my style. I rather spend $150k on a truck with good patina to cosplay as working class.

My list of the most expensive cars I would ever want:
GT3 touring
Down-badged a Maybach S600
Loaded E400 wagon
Lotus Emira

My dream 3 car garage is a S600, singer level modded MX5 with an insane $50k interior, Golf R to drive into the city and street park without getting much attention. What I have now is the two car poor man’s version of this. I honestly don’t think I would be much happier spending four times as much.

@Mark I'd get two road going nice cars that aren't too expensive and one that's mega bucks and just look at it and keep it in the house 🙂

@Mark
- One track prepped car to maximize seat time at track days
- One silly street car for commuting and a little hooning as a treat
- One tow vehicle for when either can't move under its own power

For that's me just two beater Miata's and a truck, haven't had my head in the used market lately so not sure what that translates to price wise

@Tiezep this is a killer formula. Would you keep the racecar street legal for weekend fun or go full on race car?

@Mark I don't consider myself a tuner and I have a preference for cars which I describe as factory+ with stickier rubber, better brake fluid which won't boil instantly from continuous use and maybe a more aggressive alignment

As for street legal, sheesh, basically anything with a clean title which still has brake lights and blinkers is considered street legal in MI so go nuts if you live in the Murder Mitten

@Tiezep I like an aggressive alignment for going around corners, but I’m closer to a hypermiler when it comes to how much I brake.
@Mark The world's nicest EF Civic restomod,the world's nicest K-swapped NA Miata, plus maybe a new Celestiq.
@Mark 2 vintage, and 1 modern to daily, probably EV 🤷‍♂️ Fisker Ocean?! #3carsolution #weirdcarmastodon

@Mark I’m going with a few oddities, perhaps.

1️⃣ Citroën CX Prestige for cruising around in comfort on that glorious hydropneumatique suspension with lots of room in the back and that vinyl roof! 🤩

2️⃣ Two BMW i3’s for driving around town for everyday stuff. 😁

3️⃣ Peugeot 508 PSE stationwagon for more sensible GT touring with loads of room. 130 MPG. 0-62 in 5.2s. 😍

I would budget less than $100K for each of these, so I guess I just don’t know how to spend $1M. 😳

@Mark
This is fun.

1. My 2021 Mk 7 GTI, which I already own, and is probably the favorite of my 55 years of driving.

2. A perfectly restored 1973 Triumph Spitfire, which I owned in college.

3. (Tie) Either a 1961 or 62 Thunderbird convertible or a 1961-3 Lincoln Continental. After the excesses of the late 50s, they were revolutionary, two of the most beautiful cars ever built.

@donaldham these are good@ I love triumphs and am kind of perplexed that p cars go for so much but triumphs are so affordable. I wish I had room for one.

I missed this question but I love it.

My perfect 3-car garage includes:
* something fun (sporty or bike)
* something elegant (for soirées)
* something practical (for carrying or bad weather)

My choice would be

* Jag D-Type for café runs or the odd Mille Miglia
* Citroën DS Pallas for opera nights; and
* Dakar support truck for Canadian winters

The rest of the money to buy parts and pay the mechanics

@DenOfEarth @Mark: Missed it, too, as it had no hashtag, especially not #WeirdCarMastodon. I'm adding the condition to not have to think about climate consequences as otherwise it's no fun…

I make the climate change assumption on all of this. If we added all the classic cars together and ran them on coal tar their impact would be minimal.

There are far bigger fish to fry.

@lionelb @xtaran @Mark @ZeKik @Basmitharts

Agreed, though as long as we're dreaming, I suppose my Kamaz truck could be converted to electric (dual 100kWh batteries etc) without too much dismay. I wouldn't dream of modifying the DS or the D Type.

@DenOfEarth @xtaran @Basmitharts @lionelb @Mark my Peugeot 508 SW is hybrid, and my duo of BMW i3’s are electric, so I only had one fully ICE option in my garage: the Citroën CX, which, like your DS (presumably), would be driven fewer than 3K miles per year. 🤷‍♂️
@ZeKik @DenOfEarth @xtaran @Basmitharts @lionelb @Mark Ugh I wish we got the 508 in America. Thought it would be great as a Dodge rebadge job.
@geekygearhead @Basmitharts @lionelb @Mark @DenOfEarth @xtaran Yeah… I stuck it in there because I like the current design cues of Peugeot, including my recent base model rental. It’s a change from the obvious BMW or Audi offerings, and a station wagon will ALWAYS be more fuel efficient and sleek than an equivalent SUV, with better handling, because they have a lower profile.

@ZeKik @geekygearhead @Basmitharts @Mark @DenOfEarth @xtaran

The difference between an estate car and an SUV is like the difference between masculinity and toxic masculinity.

@lionelb: Actually I wouldn't mind an EV conversion of the CX. Straight 4 engines are boring. (The CX was initially meant to get a rotary engine.That would have been a cool design. Like the DS initially was planned to get a flat 6 engine, but got an old straight 4 …)

But any vehicle with a flat engine (aircooled Citroëns, aircooled VWs, most Subarus, most vintage Porsches, BMW R, …) is just half the car without the typical boxer sound.

@David_Edmondson: Thanks, but I prefer designs which stay close to the #Citroën #CX Break's silhouette.

The only other 3-axle CX Break I really admire is #Tissier's 7m long #CX14 with high roof and 6 doors: http://www.sixmania.fr/en/citroen-tissier-cx14-1981/ (I don't like most of Tissier's rather edgy and bulky CX-based ambulance and delivery van designs. #Pijpops definitely did more eye-pleasing designs.)

And I already have a (normal) CX Break in my garage… 😎

@Mark My answer to this question would change in five minutes, but in this very moment...
1) 1st-gen Celica liftback (RA29) with a BEAMS 3S-GE swap.
2) 1.8L NA Miata in whatever special edition gets me yellow paint
3) Powerboost F150.

Or maybe instead of 1, a 3SGTE swapped 3rd-gen Celica notchback (Whistling Pig homage). And maybe instead of 3, a Honda Odyssey.

Basically I want a classic that handles, a Miata in a fun color, and something utilitarian.

@Mark #weirdcarmastodon

Fun question.

Saab Sonett, Railton University and Jensen Interceptor.

@Mark
1) Miata — Self-explanatory

2) 911 — Luxury spec so it can be our GT car

3) Bronco 2-door — Likely not the Sasquatch package because I doubt I’d be off-road much

Alt: Possibly a Macan S instead of the Bronco

Fortunately or unfortunately Jayden is interested in Porsches. She says she wants to daily a 718 in distant future, so that’s gotta be in the garage.

@Dylan used auto 718 prices are pretty decent. I frankly think the two base specs are perfectly fast enough. Also if you buy CPO you get an unlimited mile warranty so you could do some insanely long road trips in it for two years all under warranty.
