This is what you call a “cult of personality.” These voters believe Trump more than their own friends and family, and far more than their clergy. Sad!
@georgetakei
We're seeing a much larger scale People's Temple. 😪

@mizblueprint @georgetakei

One wonders how they'd fare on the Kool-Aid test!

Let alone the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test!

@skydog @mizblueprint @georgetakei Just a polite heads up folks, the Jonestown victims drank the poison at gunpoint

‘Undaunted’ Congresswoman Jackie Speier Recounts Jonestown Massacre Survival

By Jonathan Marker | National Archives News WASHINGTON, November 4, 2019 — The massacre of 918 women, men, and children in and near Reverend Jim Jones’s Peoples Temple compound in Jonestown, Guyana, on November 18, 1978, was the largest single loss of American civilian lives as the result of a deliberate act in history until the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Enlarge Congresswoman Jackie Speier speaks about her book 'Undaunted' in the William G. McGowan Theater at the National Archives in Washington, DC. @georgetakei Probably because clergy keep telling them to love the stranger, and they fundamentally distrust that message.
@georgetakei
The sociopath leading the blind.
@georgetakei such a wild comparison to see. Trump is not your friend and guaranteed to not have your best interests at heart.
@georgetakei we are living in the most dangerous period of human history. The lunatics are driving us towards the apocalypse.
@georgetakei actually... Not believing much in clergy is kind of ok nowadays... Agreed with all the rest of what you said, though.
@georgetakei An illustrative reminder that Conservatives base their religion on their politics, rather than the other way around as they claim.

@KarelFinn @georgetakei They believe in Jesus.

You know, the one with blonde hair, blue eyes, the physique of a well-trained athlete and a hand cannon with a caliber of 88 millimeters.

@georgetakei that is frightening. He has found the sucker from every minute from that last 5 decades
@georgetakei These numbers are skewed by the Trump voters who don't *have* friends and family any more, because their love for a fascist who changes their mind every second broke all those bonds. That kind of isolation is one of the defining characteristics of a cult BTW.
I know this is mean but hope when Trump dies, his maga follow. However I have the feeling that they will just follow another ignorant person with delusional thinking.
@HolgerFiallo I'd be fine with them getting into essential oils or crypto. A scam that doesn't bother the rest of us
@HolgerFiallo They won’t believe he’s dead
@woodrowtruesmith Yep. He will be having dinner with Elvis, Michael Jackson on a MC D.
@georgetakei Because Trump says plainly and with a grandiose air of authority what their own friends, family, and clergy merely suggest?
@georgetakei MAGA dismiss Trump's cruelty, misogyny and bigotry as "mean tweets". But they don't understand that the same traits which draw the ignorant and nationalists to support Trump are the ones which repel the rest of us.

@CarlG314 @georgetakei

I think they revel in the hurt.

The hurt done to others is the point.

They don't even care if they get hurt along the way, as long as others are hurt.

@CarlG314 @georgetakei I think you're saying Trump supporters defend him by saying "he's just being mean-spirited." I can't imagine thinking, "oh he's just a jerk. That's the guy to lead the executive branch and represent America to the world."
@georgetakei That's almost a full reverse of the actual reliability of the sources. 🤔 People really do hate the uncomfortable truth, don't they?

@georgetakei it's such a useless comparison, though. I trust my family and friends not to lie to me, but that doesn't mean they know what they're talking about.

Obviously I wouldn't trust conservative media/politicians, but I don't think it's weird to value information from certain media over information from friends and family, at least on certain subjects.

@georgetakei
There is something deeply, gravely, terminally wrong with anyone who can, especially at this point, believe ONE WORD from Fucko’s lips.

An entire 2016 campaign built on “fake news” and “but her emails” lies.
30,000+ DOCUMENTED lies during his administration.
An insurrection concocted and effected because of his election lies.
1000+ people arrested, 700+ convicted for Jan6 because of his lies.
A Federal indictment and a state indictment based on his election lies.
Another Fed indictment for lying about stolen documents.

He has no relationship with the concept of ‘truth’ - none.

These people need an intervention.

@georgetakei At least even they realized that religious leaders are mostly talking bullshit. Perhaps there's hope after all. ;)
@georgetakei You are only able to believe, what matches to your understanding and knowledge of the world.

If there will be a religion matching 100% to the fantastic world of D, they will follow its religios leaders.
@georgetakei Oh boy--Trump's trusted more than people's church leaders? Bet he's kicking his little feet and clapping giddily at the idea.
I'm just waiting for him to do something stupid and say he's "bigger than Jesus"--there's plenty of folks out there who'd be pissed off at that kind of boast... on the other hand, these are the same folks who sold Jesus out for political power.
Damn.
@georgetakei I wonder if it's because Trump talks in a style that allows you to fill in the blanks. He sounds like, "The environment; we love the environment; corruption, self-dealing, big problems with the Marxists; finding a job, very difficult; windmills are annoying; budget, we need the best budget, just tremendous budget."
I hear him and I have no idea what he means.
@georgetakei reality distortion fields (i.e. toxic obfuscation) are real.

@georgetakei

To be honest, I'd believe ANYONE, Trump included, more than the childfuckers in the churches.

If there was only the decision to trust Trump or the Pope, then I'd do the empirically correct thing: I'd trust the person who lied less often. I'd believe Donald Trump.

And that means something, as with all the decisions we really have, Trump isn't someone you should believe.

@georgetakei Cult of Narcissistic Personality Disorder triumphant! With a terrible color scheme.
@georgetakei @JudyOlo
That is disturbing. Do you know tha sample size? And where?

@georgetakei

'Feel' vs 'know'...makes perfect sense...🙄

@georgetakei I’m having nightmares about how far my father is going down this path. I want my father back, not this… shadow of a man he’s become.
@georgetakei very similar to Jesus's original followers. People prefer to believe in fantasies and not trouble their brains with facts or thinking.
@georgetakei Confirmation bias is a powerful drug for a lot of people. It's more comforting than accepting modernity.
@georgetakei

Interesting using clergy as a measure of factuality.

@georgetakei

To be fair, I have had family members I trust less than I trust trump, and I'm left of Barack Obama.

@georgetakei It's just incredible. He's so damn obvious they can't really mean this. I think they know he lies his butt off, but they just don't care and won't admit it. They think he does it in their best interests.

@georgetakei it is not really a statement now is it? Since only Trump supporters where questioned.

Curious about the outcome of Biden supporters...

Still strange though. Why would you ever trust a politician more than you own family?

I do not always share their views, but I am sure they are sincere...

@georgetakei trusting Trump is hard to understand, but if you do, then trusting him more than these groups makes a degree of sense. He's a quantifiable person, and the others are vaguely defined groups. In that sense, it's a poorly designed question.

Any group will have some outliers so: trust an individual more than my family (including my lying uncle and my cousin who is in prison for bank fraud); or "the clergy" (including that embezzlor and those child molestors)? 🤔

@georgetakei To be fair I don't know about their friends, family or clergy.
@georgetakei to quibble, I'm seeing a huge push for Trump with the local clergy. Of the last 5 people I've met, 4 of them have been pro Trump. Very loudly. 3 of them expressed it in what they heard in their churches. All of them were Black.
@georgetakei just went to a wedding from the conservative side of my family, lots of trump supporters. Shocking to me how willing to believe anything trump was saying they were. And all the indictments were just a witch hunt to them. Aside from trump I could find common ground, but a weird sticking power he has on them

@georgetakei Here's a list of companies that gave #Trump money to get elected. Use #AI tools like #Chatgpt to figure out how to shut them all down!

#DrainTheTraitors. Pressure corporations to stop donations to the Republican traitors who voted against democracy.

{% if target_data %} {% if target_data.company_name == "Hallmark" %} {{ target_data.company_name }} is doing the right thing and has announced it will permanently stop donating to the 147 Republicans who voted to overturn our democracy -- and they’re even demanding refunds for their past donations. @georgetakei It's the ‘ignertization’ of America. People who are angry at the wrong things, so they vote against their own best interest because they think a convicted rapist is their savior, fighting for them.
