I sometimes wonder if voting should have a cutoff age as well? I guess it wouldn’t make a ton of sense but people vote knowing that future problems won’t matter to them.

We need kids to grow up to become self-reliant and independent, something the old GOP believed in. The new GOP is about victimhood and mean-spiritedness.

@cgervasi @georgetakei That view of personal liberty (which is placed in opposition to collectivism) is, at least so I think, a bill-of-sale.
It prevents the kind of mass organization and action needed to prevent, among other things, the worsening of the ongoing shift in the climate which is caused by Exxon-Mobil and Koch Industries.
@ellenor2000 @georgetakei To me part of personal liberty is respecting people's property. Climate change damages everyone's property, just is if fertilizer from one plot of land drained into a lake, causing algae growth, reducing the value of other lake-front property. IMHO we need institutions to make people pay for the cost of their mess spreading to others' property, even if the scale is massive as with climate change.

Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy says he wants the U.S. voting age raised to 25. The biotech entrepreneur and “anti-woke” activist said Thursday that Americans age 18 and up could still vote under “civic duty voting” if they fulfill at least six months of service in the military or as a first responder — or pass the same citizenship test administered to those seeking to become naturalized citizens. The 26th Amendment lowered the federal voting age from 21 to 18 in 1971. Ramaswamy says debate over his plan will "catalyze a long overdue conversation in America about what it means to be a citizen and how to foster civic pride in the next generation."

I mean if you're not old enough to make your own decisions, then the government should be protecting you, right?
