It's been a long time since I've gotten to do a sculpted food project! I'll update this thread as I go, making elements over the course of the next week.

It's been a long time since I've gotten to do a sculpted food project! I'll update this thread as I go, making elements over the course of the next week.
Step 1: Make lemony rice krispies treats balls in various small sizes
Step 2: Tint modeling chocolate in several colors. Cover the rice krispies treat balls and roll into as close to a sphere as possible.
Step 3: figure out how to not have your hands be so hot that they nearly melt the damn modeling chocolate. Theoretically. I might not actually be achieving this step.
Step 4: texture and paint, with a combination of edible gel and powder colors.
Step 5: Give a few planets rings (out of gumpaste), just for fun.
Step 6: Make giant gumpaste eyeball, and two gumpaste wing/fin/ear thingies
Step 7: Bake carrot cake and make spiced buttercream. Stack cakes, put dowels in so it doesn't fall, carve, and frost.
Meet Om-Nom the planet eater! He's carrot cake, spice buttercream, and mostly covered in modeling chocolate. The planets are lemon rice krispies treats covered in modeling chocolate.
Amazing cake!
Reminds me a bit of a hokey old scifi story THANG by Martin Gardner (1948)

@effies Are you familiar with the 60s animated series Johnny Quest?
This looks hauntingly familiar!
"The Invisible Monster" is one of its episodes that has stuck with me for over 50 years.
