Words for hire. Canadian, so… funny-ish? West Coast. Foodie. Oxford commas are a hill I’ll die on. Traveller. Anti-Nazi, pro-science.

In 2015, I sold everything to travel the world for over 4 years. I stopped 3 months before the pandemic. 25 countries in the Before Times? Worth it.

I share photography, tasty things, & cooking tips. I'm also political, left-leaning. Victoria, Canada.

And I swear. A lot.

Will the 'Buy Canadian' movement draw more crowds to Toronto's One of a Kind show? Artists hope yes | CBC News

Toronto’s One of a Kind show has been a staple for local artisans for half a century now, but this year’s edition has seen a more significant push as the “Buy Canadian” movement takes off.

In the last few weeks, I've planted my garden, filed my taxes, *coped* (which is no small thing anymore) and then, just when I was turning the corner on Saturday afternoon, I cut my hand with a rusty saw and got a tetanus shot.

I am so blessed that I cut my hand in the way I did, where I did, because it's healed incredibly well so far.

But, yes. Not being a good poster here.

NEW POST: Rising from the quagmire to put a few words down.

People need to get real about the dark corner America has painted itself into and just how much darker it will get.

But here in Canada, there are people working toward strengthening our civil response.

Here's where we are, why it matters, and what Canadians can do about it.

Notes From Inside a Dumpster Fire

I don’t know how to begin a post like this, because how do you?* We’re in the most terrifying geopolitical moment of my lifetime. Note this week, because everything changes here on out. When Trump blundered ahead with tariff fuckery, global observers were baffled, but many said it

NEW POST: I wrote this with both Americans and Canadians in mind.

Getting through this, & fighting these evil motherfuckers, all comes down to your resourcefulness, but guess what? The system's been trying to make you less resourceful for 50 years, to prevent you from fighting back.

That ends now.

The resistance starts with resourcefulness.

Resourcefulness is Resistance

Photographer who snapped fight between a bald eagle and Canada goose calls it 'very symbolic' | CBC News

A bald eagle may have thought it spotted an easy lunch in a Canada goose sitting on an icy bay in Burlington, Ont., but according to Mervyn Sequeira — who watched and photographed a 20-minute battle between the two birds — the goose held its own.

I just saw an American in a TikTok video who's like "hey, y'all, we're only doing the tariffs & talking about the 51st state stuff 'cos we want to liberate Canadians."

FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU.

You will NEVER fucking liberate me. It is INCONCEIVABLE that being American could EVER liberate me.

WE DON'T NEED TO BE LIBERATED.

WE LOVE BEING CANADIAN.

Anyone who thinks this, who comes up here to Canada, will discover how violent this discourse makes us feel.

So violent. Deeply violent.

I wrote about food, cooking, & how it can subvert the capitalist machine while helping you thrive when oppressors hope you won't.

"The biggest lie ever told was convincing you convenience foods would empower you and your life, when all it did was make you more of a cog in the capitalist wheel."

Freedom Fighting Starts in the Kitchen

My Sunday rituals are a heady swirl of self-preservation and laziness. I pad around the kitchen a lot, listen to infectious grooves, and take charge of the only thing that remains 100% in my control: my food. I make a big breakfast, then contemplate my next moves. Usually, I get

I turned the leftover flabby skin from my week’s roasted chicken into a delicious crispy, decadent snack* and now have enough fat leftover to make a nice big batch of chicken-fat potato wedges in my air fryer in the next couple days. That saves me ~70 cents on good olive oil, actually.

I took half the chicken skin to my neighbour, who gets random acts of deliciousness from me, and she gasped and blurted “shut the fuck up.” (Loved it!)

Most people just throw it in the compost. Don’t do that!

Currently cooking chicken skin for a crispy snack, and for fat that I can use later this week to make nice chicken-fatty potato wedges in my air fryer.

YUMMY.
