@MediaLawProf

Adding that death to the future charges against the police and politician...

@MediaLawProf Some terrible ignorance there, not just of the law but of how to treat someone so old.
@MediaLawProf @brianpjcronin MAGA = kill local news dead to end democracy. Long live American fascists!
@MediaLawProf heartbreaking beyond words
@MediaLawProf the police and their GOP accomplices just can't help their fascism.
@MediaLawProf image description: clipping from the article reads “Illegal raids contribute to death of newspaper co-owner
Stressed beyond her limits and overwhelmed by hours of shock and grief after illegal police raids on her home and the Marion County Record newspaper office Friday, 98-year-old newspaper co-owner Joan Meyer, otherwise in good health for her age, collapsed Saturday afternoon and died at her home.”
(Continued in next post)
@MediaLawProf image description continued: “She had not been able to eat after police showed up at the door of her home Friday with a search warrant in hand. Neither was she able to sleep Friday night.
She tearfully watched during the raid as police not only carted away her computer and a router used by an Alexa smart speaker but also dug through her son Eric's personal bank and investments statements to photograph them.
Electronic cords were left in a jumbled”
@MediaLawProf nauseating both because of the suffering of her final days and that those who caused it may well escape accountability
@moku @MediaLawProf 100% will face no consequences.
@MediaLawProf please consider editing your post to include alt text. Many won't boost without! #alttext
@chris @MediaLawProf oh I did not know that convention about not boosting without alt-text. Still learning.
@chris @MediaLawProf I thought alt text was to use words to describe images for people who can’t see the images. Why is it also needed for posts that are already in a text format?
@batyalee @chris @MediaLawProf It's an image of text, so alt text is necessary for users of screen readers.
@batyalee @chris @MediaLawProf screen readers ***can’t read the text in image files.** Alt text is for blind and low-visibility users.
@batyalee @chris @MediaLawProf the “text” in the original post is really an image (screenshot of text). The machine readers reading text for people who can’t see the screen don’t see the letters, I.e. can’t read it. But can read the Alt description.
@MediaLawProf so...murder charges? At least negligent homicide? Anybody? Looking at you Justice Department.

@your_huckleberry @MediaLawProf

at what point can this be considered domestic terrorism orchestrated by the state?

or an extrajudicial assassination?

@your_huckleberry Just off the top of my head I'd say negligent homicide, elder abuse, violation of rights under color of law, perjury for the warrant, assault, theft, malicious mischief, violation of the Wire Tap Act, conspiracy to violate the laws of the United States.

@MediaLawProf This is awful! These cops should be ashamed of themselves!

@MediaLawProf
Wow.

I looked up the articles about this story about a small paper called the Marion Record. I find this story is quite upsetting because the police overreach seems so large for such a small issue.

@MediaLawProf We can add third degree murder to the list of charges.

@MediaLawProf I hope some intrepid lawyers are watching this and considering a lawsuit, and that an intrepid federal prosecutor is considering a civil rights case.

Nice thing about a lawsuit is the burden of proof is lower than in a criminal case and the allowed discovery broader. And, evidence uncovered in a lawsuit can be used later to bring criminal charges.

The only fix for this police department and city government is to bleed out their budget with a massive lawsuit. It's the only way to get their attention.

@MediaLawProf I think a police chief in Kansas is going to be resigning from a second job to avoid uncomfortable questions. The sooner the better
@MediaLawProf The cops should be found guilty of murder then.
@MediaLawProf it's a gang that uses your money and strangles your future
@MediaLawProf Jack booted Nazis murder elderly woman, that is modern policing in the US of fucking arseholes...
@MediaLawProf The police should be charged with her death.
@MediaLawProf indict the putrid police who did this! Jack Smith, another case for you when you're done with trump.
@MediaLawProf My god… I read the article earlier. My condolences to her family.
@MediaLawProf Why was her home raided? Her paper was investigating sexual allegations against the chief of police.

@MediaLawProf

So mental note - hide data drives in side power cords :)
