I keep telling people that a vanilla soy latte is technically a three bean soup, but nobody understands. They just nod and smile like I'm the crazy one.
@si_fuller Behold, my friends… genius!
@si_fuller This is my favorite toot of the day. I'm bookmarking this one.
@winjay @si_fuller I will be using this at dinner tonight. Full attribution, to the extent practicable given that this will be a verbal quote-toot
@si_fuller @jpm Literally correct, but technically not. (I have never understood why vanilla gets called vanilla beans, the seeds are tiny, even if the seed pod is long)
@stufromoz @si_fuller @jpm oh yeah, vanilla is actually in the orchid family, it's not a legume

then again neither is coffee, coffee isn't a bean either by that definition, but we call coffee and vanilla "beans" so you're not really wrong about it being a three bean soup

or you're only wrong because i feel like three bean soup usually implies the beans are whole? but that isn't part of the strict definition, just a cultural association
@stufromoz @jpm @si_fuller a mocha soy latte with vanilla in it would be a four bean soup
@alienskyler @jpm @si_fuller also vanilla is not a bean you can eat singly
@stufromoz @jpm @si_fuller no, but coffee and cocoa beans are barely edible and even soybeans are usually not eaten whole except for natto (fermented) or edamame (young) and usually are made into soy milk, tofu, tempeh, or more processed foods instead
@si_fuller @pseudonym You are correct on the vanilla soy latte. So is the soy mocha.

@si_fuller
Rest easy in knowing how correct you are.

Just like how a pop-tart is a calzone, and a pizza is toast.

@DopeGhoti @si_fuller Surely you'd have to cook the base again for pizza to be toast?
@Altreus @DopeGhoti @si_fuller
And this is where the originators just gave up arguing and picked a different name. "Fine, we'll just call it 'pizza' ok?"
@si_fuller sugar cane is technically a vegetable.
@si_fuller There was a Food Theory episode about this. 😁
@si_fuller And vodka & ginger ale is a salad.
@si_fuller Pizza is a fruit pie, just sayin'...

@si_fuller

But . . . it's really a three bean broth?

@si_fuller technically coffee isn't a bean, it's a pit, and vanilla is a fruit. #theMoreYouKnow
@lisamelton @si_fuller That's pretty much what it boils down to. LOL
@si_fuller To be fair, vanilla beans aren't actually beans. Maybe try telling these folks that vanilla ice cream is fruit flavoured?
@si_fuller So a vanilla soy cap/mocha is a four bean combo.
@si_fuller It took me an hour and several encounters with this boosted toot before it clicks
@si_fuller It reminded me of the Three bean salad podcast. Irrelevant in this discussion, but amusing.

@si_fuller Vanilla isn’t technically a bean, is it? Chocolate isn’t a bean either so a chocolate soy latte doesn’t work. Maybe an adzuki soy latte?
@si_fuller nobody likes « technically correct » people
@si_fuller technically coffee isn't a bean but a cherry.

@si_fuller I got your back and so does MatPat. This was explored in a video by food theorists on YouTube. Enjoy!

@D1g1talDrag0n Wow, they gave the matter a lot more thought than I did.
@si_fuller yeah but your thought is great since you had not seen it! :)
@si_fuller
We are pod people. And cherry people.
@si_fuller I feel your pain. I know I always enjoy every one of my several servings of roasted bean broth each day.
@si_fuller I'm often confused by the derision when I have #framboise for #breakfast by the same people who have no issues with toast and jam.

@si_fuller

I get the same reaction

@si_fuller the holy trinity bean soup praise be
