Non-Proliferation is No Longer Tenable
Long ago, the world decided that non-proliferation of nuclear weapons was a good idea.
Nuclear powers liked this because it amplified their power relative to non-nuclear nations.
Everyone else was just nervous about nuclear weapons in general and thought it would be better if we kept the number of nuclear-armed nations to a minimum.
But here is the problem:
Russia, the USA, and Israel keep attacking non-nuclear nations. We do not attack nuclear-armed nations.
Further, the USA and Israel break agreements constantly. Lately, we have been attacking other countries DURING NEGOTIATIONS.
So no one feels like they can trust nuclear powers. The only thing they can trust is that we won't invade other nuclear powers.
Because of the incompetence of Trump and Netanyahu, we have permanently altered the international landscape. Every nation that can acquire nuclear weapons now has a powerful motive to do so.
At this point, there is nothing anyone can say that would dissuade nations like Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, because it is in their best interests to do so.
