That dude really reflects his base
@obscurestar Didn't you know? Money is the purest form of speech. The Supreme Court said so.
(Now, where's all my free money?)
“For the first (and likely last) time, I'm posting a toot from Mastodon on Twitter, instead of the inverse, b/c it highlights a growing problem. Giving content to this site puts $$$ in the pockets of neo-Nazis. Staying here is a choice w/ consequences. https://t.co/Ne3nTZ8amo”
@coreyrayburnyung ❤️❤️
You got a good heart kid
Twitter is going to start paying popular users for views. Current calculations look like $8.50 per million views. Looking at my Twitter analytics data I’d be making $250 - $450 a month if I restarted posting there actively. This is probably the first smart move I’ve seen from Elon at Twitter. This is exactly how competition makes things better for users. https://techcrunch.com/2023/07/13/twitter-starts-sharing-ad-revenue-with-verified-creators/
@flexghost if they cared so much about free speech, why are they thanking Elon?
Mastodon has existed since like 2017 right? Why couldn't these free-speech people spin up a Mastodon server
@flexghost I don't think Elons platform is truly free speech anyways, neither Threads, Truth Social or anything else
The only free speech social media is the one you own and run
@experiencersinternational @flexghost
Am I at war with #ArtificialIntelligence? I want to live #AlgorithmFree. I want to make my own mind up. Rich people want to make my mind up for me, in a way that benefits them.
@flexghost two things:
1 - no one anywhere is trying to limit your free speech, unless a) you’re trying to pass hate speech off as free speech, or b) you’re Elon actually, literally limiting people’s freedom of speech.
2 - we need a list of these advertisers to bigin the boycotts.
@flexghost I'm ready to leave tbf. I just not fully understand how to use Mastodon atm (literal noob lmao), my peeps aren't here (yet?) and I need to stay informed, but my usage has diminished since last week.
Elon deliberately destroyed an "ok" info-sharing website to propel his ilk into the mainstream, and for what? We all know this revenue program will further fuel rage-baiting (both troll and genuine). Hope this is the final nail in the coffin. 🤞🙏
@flexghost People on #Mastodon spread hate for free.
Is it really so bad to be paid for creating the content that makes the platform money in the first place?
Literally.
Excellent take, Annie
