Former Vice President Mike Pence is leaning in on his anti-abortion stance as he campaigns for the Republican presidential nomination. Pence says he does not support exceptions in the case of nonviable pregnancies, when doctors have determined there's no chance a baby will survive outside the womb. Pence has previously voiced support for a national abortion ban after six weeks of pregnancy — before many women know they’re pregnant. The former vice president says he'll “always err on the side of life.” The Supreme Court ended the constitutional right to an abortion a year ago last month, ushering in a wave of bans and restrictions.

@rvawonk Argh. We lived this. Our daughter was diagnosed with Acrania at the 12 week scan, and induced at 22 weeks. It's -correctly- healthcare here in Victoria, Australia.

It was (and remains, over a decade later) a grief-filled experience that would only have been made excruciatingly worse if politicised like that.

Even if Pence reads (they read) this article and the devastating consequences and ordeal of mother and baby, he (they) will continue to support this ban.

They won't care until it happens to their own children and they see the ridiculousness of forcing women to carry a medically doomed pregnancy.

No empathy and no respect for that their own God has already determined that the fetus should not live.

My husband refuses to watch or hear US news now. Our nation is approaching civilised, not retreating from it.

Deep sympathy to those trying to get the US past this horrible time, where terminations deemed sensible in the 1950s are seen as "against God."

I have a Catholic friend whose doctors at a small-town Catholic hospital refused to give her an #abortion some years ago-- after telling her the baby was already dead. She had to travel a two-hour drive outside her town to get medical care.

Somehow, leaving her in danger of gangrene and other infections, because she is carrying her baby's dead corpse in her womb, is supposedly " #ProLife."

Remember:
#AntiAbortion ideology is not actually about saving babies. If it were, they would be insisting on giving pregnant women #HealthCare and allowing abortions of corpses.
