In case you missed it, this is an image from last year of the cluster munitions that Russia shot at civilians, just in the city of Kharkiv.
@anneapplebaum Also in Syria Russia extensively used cluster munitions in populated areas.

@anneapplebaum The outrage comes from an understandable moral ground, but I can hazard a guess that it mostly comes from a safe distance far from the war. Where debris from enemy ordinance that are shot down from #Ukraine’s air defense can kill civilians.
Do we stop sending more air defense weapons because these can kill and maim innocent civilians as collateral?
War is tough and no one wants that. Yet, here we are. 1/
@anneapplebaum It is a matter survival for Ukraine. They need artillery to clear out trenches and armor in the open fields. These horrible weapons will be effective for that. They will use it on military targets far from civilian population. Unlike ruzzia does.
And it is not that ruzzia isn’t using cluster bombs and chemical weapons already. Or committed #ecocide. Or threatening with a dirty bomb at #ZNPP.

@anneapplebaum Those who worry about sending some #clustermunitions to drive out invaders who kill, subjugate and rape, ask yourself: Would you want to bring a kitchen knife to a gunfight? Or do you want to make sure your gun is as big or larger than your aggressor?
Peace is often achieved through superior firepower. That is the reality of standing up to a maniacal despot with a large army on your doorstep.
Ukrainians are doing what they deem necessary to defend themselves.

@Wabbit @anneapplebaum I hate that metaphor because everyone who has trained seriously with guns knows that a knife is faster and more lethal within 10 meters, and likely even out past 20 meters.

"Don't bring a gun to a knife fight" is much better advice.

@anneapplebaum clearly this is not enough cluster munition. We need more!
@anneapplebaum I miss detached journalistic neutrality.

Thanks for taking the time to rephrase what you can't retweet on this platform. Much appreciated.

@anneapplebaum war bloodies everyone hands
@anneapplebaum I am steadfastly refusing to entertain input from anyone criticizing the US for finally providing (OR Ukraine for eagerly accepting) cluster munitions ... unless they can show me where they just as adamantly condemned Russia's use of these very munitions already in this "3-day special military operation" that they seem to be losing.
@anneapplebaum What about cluster munition and depleted uranium that US and NATO used against civilians in my country. Former Yugoslavia, Serbia?
@anneapplebaum still doesn't make it acceptable that us and UK are now looking to supply Ukraine with cluster bombs. Think, two horribles don't make one that's fine.

@anneapplebaum

Do you have a link that says all of that is from cluster munitions?
