"and you've researched the name and it has no bad connotations at all, especially for people in the UK?"

"er, sure, no, none at all Mark"

"Ok, let's launch it!"

@IamHappyToast So glad I'm not the only one who thought this!
Someone Photoshopped Mark Zuckerberg as Data from 'Star Trek' and it's incredible

Wow.

Mashable
@IamHappyToast it's definitely triggering something in 40+ Brits
@IamHappyToast Also, no-one has thought of this before:
@kevinteljeur Perhaps they bought it up and rebranded?
@IamHappyToast Haha, I wonder if someone had some inside knowledge and fired something up, anything, so they’d have to get bought out. App squatting.
@IamHappyToast @spacehobo Hadn’t run across this one. For those who are wondering, Threads was a 1983 TV movie about the aftermath of a nuclear strike on Sheffield. https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20190925-was-threads-the-scariest-tv-show-ever-made
Was Threads the scariest TV show ever made?

This week marks the 35th anniversary of the TV premiere of the British nuclear war drama – which was dubbed “the night the country didn’t sleep”. It remains brutal – but essential – viewing, writes Ross Davies.

BBC
@k9 @IamHappyToast Oh yeah, it was grim. Far more terrifying than The Day After, and it continues on to show what life is like a decade or two after the war.
@IamHappyToast @Detr1tu5 having seen this movie it’s exactly what I thought of as well.
@IamHappyToast wouldn't it be more like Threads the nuclear war drama?
@IamHappyToast Yep, my first thought was of the film Threads too. That’s the sort of film you never forget.
@IamHappyToast Every time I see that name I wince, not the best choice of the name. 😬
@IamHappyToast Exactly what I thought about when I heard the name. God that film disturbed me.
@IamHappyToast I wonder what the take-up in Sheffieldʼs going to be like.
@IamHappyToast tempted to sign up to get this trending on the first day.
@IamHappyToast Could you explain to this ignorant American?
@glennsills @IamHappyToast it's the name of a (apparently) generationally traumatising tv show shown to kids as a 'nuclear war is very bad' effort.
@IamHappyToast So when there's the inevitable mass data breach, is that Attack Warning Red?
@IamHappyToast For the people outside the UK. Threads is a pseudo documentary about what happens right after a nuclear strike on the UK. You see a society falling apart in great detail. It's not a light-hearted as "When the Wind Blows" if you know that.

@IamHappyToast oof, never heard of it before but after reading it feels like a comparable American impact would be naming a new social media service "Roots"

Because it's all about families you see.
