FYI litrpg is a fantasy novel subgenre where characters exist in a world with explicit rpg mechanics and rules, and usually involve exploiting the rules of that system

If you wanna try it out two recommendations of mine are "Oh Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer" which is good and queer friendly and "Azarinth Healer" which has a bisexual main character (yes I'm deliberately recommending ones that are good for queer folks)

@eniko did you mean "with explicit rpg mechanics and rules"?
@floatybirb yes, thanks autocorrect for changing with to without 😔

@eniko Oooh, I adore litrpg, and always can use more books to read

So, 2 more books for me to-read-pile >:D

@Nyoelle there's also an extremely gay one called protagonist
@eniko I find that as a genre, it seems *particularly* prone to some pretty messed up content. My own filter for this is to look for the novels that have female protagonists, which isn’t perfect but does make things less likely to be super-rapey…
@eniko
First time I've seen the term! The Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy was written based on the writer's TTRPG games, but it all takes place in-world. I wonder if that would count.
@gamesbymanuel for it to be litrpg the characters have to have access to an explicit system with prompts and levels and stats and stuff that they're aware of. it's kinda goofy but it winds up being really fun, i think
@eniko
In that case I don't think I've read any, unless Ready Player One counts. I HATED it, though.
@eniko oh so Bofuri and such. Never heard of this term lol, it’s an enjoyable genre tho
@eniko That sounds more like it should be called rpglit.
@flesh i dont make the rules 🤷‍♀️
@eniko Just going to use this opportunity to recommend Roadwarden, for anybody who wants to read a very well written game

@eniko My sister is heavily involved in MUD/MUSH activities, as I historically have also been. She's a builder in one and been getting some help from me implementing useful mechanics such as "leaky bucket" rate limiting of magical effects. (Pick a flower from this field, you get a bonus if they like you. They scream throughout the region if they don't like you.)

Recently also showed her how ChatGPT can actually help filling out book descriptions for her library build.

@eniko I've read a bunch. (Well, listened on Audible.) Most of it is complete trash, but I enjoy it.
@jessechounard I'm almost done with book 2 of Unorthodox Farming and I love it
@eniko I'll check it out. I'm on book 7 of Noobtown, and finished He Who Fights With Monsters book 9 before this. (Big-time power fantasy nonsense in both.)
@eniko I do less book reading than I'd like but I read a lot of manga about it.
@eniko I recently got into them and love them.
