Howdy,

I make computers go 'beep'

This new piece from @nitashatiku is so, so, so good. It explains wtf is going on with Silicon Valley and AI risk. Between the lines, it connects a lot of dots for me I hadn't worked out yet. Insanely well-written and well-researched.

I was there for the whole Google Talk part, even had my own XMPP server, to discuss (at first) with my friends on Google Talk.
And I do think history does repeat :-(

A study (not yet peer-reviewed) done by a team of researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology concludes that between 33% and 46% of workers on platforms like Amazon's Mechanical Turk had used AI models to automate work typically done by humans needed to train AI systems.

The people paid to train AI are outsourcing their work… to AI

It’s a practice that could introduce further errors into already error-prone models.

I hinted at this piece earlier this week, in a rant about the relatively few evil code wizards who are really good at making malware look harmless to security software, and why it makes sense to look at them more closely.

Why Malware Crypting Services Deserve More Scrutiny

If you operate a cybercrime business that relies on disseminating malicious software, you probably also spend a good deal of time trying to disguise or “crypt” your malware so that it appears benign to antivirus and security products. In fact, the process of “crypting” malware is sufficiently complex and time-consuming that most serious cybercrooks will outsource this critical function to a handful of trusted third parties. This story explores the history and identity behind Cryptor[.]biz, a long-running crypting service that is trusted by some of the biggest names in cybercrime.

Smaller Pride events in #Indiana have always attracted some protest - typically local church folk who think they are out "preaching to the unsaved."

This year, they've gotten measurably darker. I'm hearing more slurs and threats.

Recently I worked a festival that was circled for hours by a man with AR-15
& full battle-rattle, calling us pedos and child mutilators.

This alarming escalation is due to increasingly vicious anti-#LGBTQ political posturing.

People are following their leaders.

I've just realized I never posted on Mastodon this animated piece I did back in 2020. Still a favourite of mine! #pixelart #animation
