Twitter has suspended every single API key not belonging to a Twitter Blue subscriber.
Every. Single. Key. 9to5Mac’s? Dead. Apple’s for iMessage previews? Dead.
Every single API key has been revoked. The Twitter API is officially dead.
@EshuMarneedi @RGPphotog for the same reason Apple removed Tumblr from the app store in 2018? They had to remove all adult content to be allowed back.
Twitter has plenty of pictures of "female-presenting nipples".
@Ash_Crow @RGPphotog Apple has since added guideline 1.2 which protects user-generated content from these rules. As long as there’s a way not to see it (Twitter has a way for users to mark nudity), it’s allowed.
Also, Mastodon has “female-presenting nipples.” Shouldn’t Mastodon be removed from the store as well if we were to go off that? That rule never aged well.
@EshuMarneedi FYI you're doing a tremendously bad job of not sounding like you're supporting Twitter here
hth 👍
@martincrownover @oblomov @TodayInTwitter Interesting that you just assume everyone on Twitter is in a position to just up and leave. Is my wife a horrible person because she's still on Twitter because her job automatically posts her articles from the website she writes for to Twitter? And that she has to engage with users there because of her job? Is she just supposed to up and find a new job?
To quote Obi Wan Kenobi, only the Sith deal in absolutes.
@rvaweather @oblomov @TodayInTwitter I don't know your wife's situation, but you should really think about the questions you've posed.
Nobody *has* to be on Twitter. That's just silly.
If supporting Twitter as it transforms into another far-right shithole goes against your wife's values, she *should* advocate for change at her org or find a new job.
If she supports new Twitter/doesn't care about all the harm that platform can - and does - cause, well... yeah, she might be a horrible person.
@martincrownover @rvaweather @oblomov Staying on a social platform ≠ being a horrible person. What says you’re a horrible person is if you’re actively contributing to the hate. “Oh, you liked one tweet — you’re a Nazi!” is stupid thinking.
I say this as someone who runs an entire Mastodon dedicated to calling out the horribleness of Twitter’s leadership.
@EshuMarneedi @rvaweather @oblomov So you're saying that no matter how bad things get on Twitter, no matter how far right Musk manages to steer things, anyone contributing and legitimizing the site by being part of it is absolved as long as they aren't taking part in the "bad" part?
I'm sorry, but I can't agree with that.
Twitter is not so important that we can't make the choice to simply not be part of it.
@EshuMarneedi @rvaweather @oblomov So there is no line to cross, in your opinion.
I'm not trying to be rude, but I find that view very naive. There's literally no such thing as just "using a website".
By just "using a website", you are supporting it by making its ad model profitable. You are putting your honest, good-faith content next to harmful, bad-faith content, and lending it legitimacy and credibility.
@EshuMarneedi @rvaweather @oblomov Fair enough, I think you're right.
But I think the line between horrible and not is blurry. And there is (or was, or will be, depending on your ethics) a point where decent people will no longer want to be associated with Twitter.
For the same reason, I don't join and promote my art on Truth Social or Parler or other clusters of hate and bigotry. I wouldn't contribute to those aspects, of course, but... why have anything to do with them in the first place?
@rvaweather @oblomov @TodayInTwitter I'm here largely because I changed my mind and tried another platform, and I'm certainly not alone in that.
It's not belittling to point out to people that their actions are legitimizing hate and bigotry. People will change their minds.
I don't spend a lot of time talking about this stuff here - this is probabaly the most I've delved into it. But you should not treat Twitter as a permanent inevitability. It's not, and no social media ever will be.
@schenklklopfer Checking - by twitter sso, I'm assuming you mean logging in to services with your Twitter account creds, correct?
@TodayInTwitter Remember the olden days when a large swath of the computing world thought electric car trump was a supergenius?
Good times, good times.

Easy Chirp is a web-based Twitter app with a simple interface. It is optimized for disabled users and works well with assistive technology such as screen readers. It also functions well with keyboard-only users, older browsers such as IE9, a lowband internet connection, and even no JavaScript.
@TodayInTwitter @dymaxion Every key? No, one small tool still hangs on against the big suspension. I am not a Blue subscriber and https://fedifinder.glitch.me/ still works.
(The API is still dead. Just some legacy keys they failed to kill.)
