This is very well-written article about modern theoretical physics musings over the implications of the heat death of the universe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_death_of_the_universe) - notably those of Leonard Susskind (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Susskind). Approximately a 20-30' (careful) read.

In New Paradox, Black Holes Appear to Evade Heat Death | Quanta Magazine

The puzzling behavior of black hole interiors has led researchers to propose a new physical law: the second law of quantum complexity.

Quanta Magazine
" But lately physicists have been thinking that a supposedly heat-dead universe is a lot more interesting than it looks. Their story starts with a question about black holes ... The work is fascinating for the way it brings together multiple areas of science, not just black holes but also quantum chaos, topological phases of matter, cryptography, quantum computers, and the possibility of even more powerful machines."

Usually, the more I know of a field, the science journalism feels like a deliberate example of getting it wrong. Stupid to the point of outright lies contradicting the scientists involved.

I don’t know this field, but what refreshing writing! My layperson mind is fully engaged and enjoying every word. This is great!
