What's the best comeback story of iOS/iPadOS 17: autocorrect or Stage Manager?

(I'm so impressed by both of them.)

@viticci Is the new autocorrect only available in English for now? In German I could not spot a difference right away.
@didole @viticci I don’t see any difference in Swedish as well
@didole @viticci “Available in Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Korean, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, and Thai. English, French, and Spanish require iPhone 12 or later”. Source: https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-17-preview

@gracjan @didole @viticci great! The three I use are listed.
@kirsch @didole @viticci There are also updates to the keyboard they don’t mention there, for example I can now type in Polish by swiping, which wasn’t previously available for this language. I didn’t see that mentioned by anyone anywhere.
@gracjan @kirsch @didole @viticci
Seriously? That awesome! What about word prediction? It would super strange if swiping is now supported but not word prediction.
I have to try beta ASAP :)
@malauch The prediction in Polish is weird. It suggests how to finish the current word, but it doesn’t suggest the next word. I hope it’ll change in future betas.
@gracjan Do you have access to Apple Watch with installed beta? I’m really curious if there is Polish keyboard in watchOS 10.
@malauch I have an Apple Watch Series 6 with watchOS 10. It only allows me to use Dictation with Polish. Scribble is not available. I’m not sure if there’s a full keyboard for Polish or not, because my model doesn’t support it even for English (it’s a feature for Series 7 and up).
@gracjan OK, thanks for the info!
@malauch You’re welcome!
@malauch I have an update on that. I probably have a bug, because the keyboard is predicting the next word for this person: https://social.lol/@voitech/110524311271661879

@gracjan WOW! That’s going to be really great update! Now I’m considering installing beta on main devices, even when I probably should not :)
@malauch I have only one iPhone and I always install the first Developer Beta on it. The beta is surprisingly stable this year. The battery isn’t happy, but that’s always the case with the betas, and it’s amplified by the fact I’m using an iPhone 13 mini.

@gracjan That’s really good to know. However, I saw too many horror stories with data loss when using dev betas. Therefore I prefer not to install them on main devices early in beta cycle.

I salute you, all early adopters 🫡

@malauch It turns out I needed to go keyboard settings and download data needed for the more advanced prediction to work. Now it does suggest the next word.
@viticci re: Stage Manager… just in case you know… Does the 2020 12.9” iPad Pro have “more space” now?
@penllawen has it not had that setting for the past year? My 11” 2020 model has it, I would have assumed the 12.9” got it as well
@joshcalvetti only M1 models. My 2020 iPad is the A12z. No “more space” on that chip. I can’t believe it isn’t quick enough for some scaled bitmap compositing, though. Macs could do that ~10 years ago.
@penllawen Huh, that setting is there for me on my A12z 11”. My 12.9” is an M1, so I can’t verify that one.
Organize windows with Stage Manager on iPad

In Stage Manager on iPad, you can view, move, resize, and overlap windows.

@penllawen oooookay then. That’s bizarre.
@viticci Ducking obviously Autocorrect😉
@viticci I’m excited about external Mic support, and according to this video, Apple has it in iPadOS17: https://developer.apple.com/wwdc23/10106

@viticci AutoCorrect - this affects EVERY user across iPhone, iPad and Mac and it's light years better than what we've had to put up with for so many years. The difference is noticeable within just a few hours of use.
@pauls @viticci Looking forward to this, I’m hoping it can work I hit b after each word when typing I meant to put space 😂. Is siri any better ? It’s ability to understand me seems to have got worse over the years
@viticci OK, if *you* are that excited about Stage Manager now, I have to try it. I hope there are enough keyboard shortcuts for me. (Mostly, I care about full screen mode, not all the other guff.)
@viticci I still can’t get around Stage Manager. I just don’t see how it’s a useful over and above the app switcher. Love to understand your point of view
@viticci how exactly? StageManager still feels completely alien to me
@viticci I would say Stage manager because of all the problems and passion around it
@viticci Auto... Was sometimes terrible in German
@viticci yet to install the beta but really looking forward to the autocorrect improvements.
@viticci I really don’t see much of a difference with auto correct. I don’t know if it makes a difference that I have 4 different keyboards?
@viticci I'm really missing emoji suggestions from autocomplete though :(
@viticci Autocorrect because I don’t really use stage manager but also because autocorrect was getting to the point of being such garbage that I’m enjoying this radically better version.
@viticci Relieved to hear the new autocorrect is good! This would be the one feature tempting me to install the beta 😅
@viticci Stage Manager. Autocorrect never broke me to the point where I was questioning my career choice. 😅
@ChrisLawley @viticci After using stage manager again with iPadOS 17 on the 11" M2 Pro in "More Space" mode...it has me wanting the 12.9" iPad Pro again.
@dominocollege @viticci It has me wanting a 15” iPad Pro. 😉
@ChrisLawley @viticci Right? Seems even more likely now, yea?
@viticci I’m stunned at how much better autocorrect is. SM is great, but autocorrect is so vital to literally everything we do on iOS. And…it’s SO good!

@viticci I still don’t know which problem stage manager solves (except for… window management that doesn’t need a weird side panel on the left)

So I’m voting autocorrect!

@viticci Stage Manager EASY - it has somehow become something I prefer to use.
@viticci I installed it immediately to my 2018 12.9 and it is so refreshing. I never really understood what was your problem with stage manager (as I don’t have external monitor so it was always a limited experience) but boy now I get it. Even with some glitches it have I don’t want to put back iPadOS 16.
@viticci probably autocorrect for me as that has been the number 1 thing has been an annoyance since switching to iPhone/iPad over 3 years ago.

@viticci The one feature I miss from early betas of iPadOS 16: a spacial multitasking menu in stage manager rather than the chronological one.

If I just had that I would be so happy!

WebOS had multitasking right 15 years ago. iOS is still catching up.
