AirNow.gov

AirNow is your one-stop source for air quality data. Our recently redesigned site highlights air quality in your local area first, while still providing air quality information at state, national, and world views.

Yeah, it's a .gov so it would't show directly outside of the home country's borders a few short years ago. That it's showing data in Canada & Mexico may indicate a realization that climate change doesn't stop at borders!

@deirdrebeth @u0421793 @WillRobinson Try https://fire.airnow.gov. It’s a newer tool that the EPA built that surfaces data for all of North America, over a map. There are official monitors in both Canada and Mexico, and home monitors included in the US, for more data.

We Californians have been using this heavily since it came out in 2019 or so.

AirNow Fire and Smoke Map

This map shows fine particle pollution (PM2.5) from wildfires and other sources. It provides a public resource of information to best prepare and manage wildfire season. Developed in a joint partnership between the EPA and USFS.

@WillRobinson I often use the AirVisual iOS app. Great map and hourly updates from the sensors.
@WillRobinson Also check out map.purpleair.com. It’s sensors down to a local level for air quality.
@egericson @WillRobinson
Conveniently AirNow also includes Purple sensors!
@WillRobinson
https://fire.airnow.gov will show you where the smoke is coming from.

@WillRobinson as a Californian, the airnow app has become an annual install on my phone.
@WillRobinson You can also download this as an app for your phone, if you have a smart phone. You can have it default to your current location & can add other locations as needed under "Places".
@WillRobinson - Yup, DC Sucks right now. My daughter sent me this image of the Potomac River, and you couldn’t see to the middle, let alone the other side. Meanwhile, I am in Colorado.
@WillRobinson Every season when the states of Washington, Oregon and California get socked in with smoke I never see this much whining!!!! Buy an air purifier shut your windows and wait for the wind to change. Climate change is not going away because you are discomforted!!!
@WillRobinson Or walk outside, look around, and take a deep breath. At least NSA/Fusion Centers won’t have a clue. 👍🏼
@WillRobinson @briankrebs also visible if you open Apple Maps on your iPhone! (Bottom right corner)
@WillRobinson Fortunately, my zip code came up green/Good. I've shared the link on Facebook, too. Thank you!
@WillRobinson After I posted on FB, one of my friends noted she's in the purple. Yikes!
@WillRobinson Thanks. On MD Eastern Shore and it was gross today.
@WillRobinson PurpleAir is more hyper local and updates more frequently.
@WillRobinson Cool. Also, I hate this timeline.
