@nixCraft I am a windows hostage unfortunately lol
@nixCraft both Linux and win10, i intend on fully switching to Linux in the future though

@hiden @nixCraft

I use my laptop for work โ€“ there's still customer stuff out there that just doesn't work right (or at all) were I to switch to Linux or OSX (especially Mx-based Macs).

@nixCraft Interesting; I'd have guessed more Windows users. I've used Linux and found it useful and user-friendly, but ya gotta believe, right? You can't convert the corporate bigshots to Linux.
@12thRITS @nixCraft unless the corporate bigshot in question works at Valve
@12thRITS Outside of Mastodon we wouldโ€™ve seen higher votes toward Win or Mac for sure.

@12thRITS @nixCraft

On desktops, no. On the back end, very definitely can.

@12thRITS @nixCraft

I prefer Linux to OS X, and use a Windows 7 machine when needed (otherwise air gapped). One machine will boot its factory-installed Windows 10 if I ask, but I never do; Windows 10 is unusable junk.

@nixCraft BSD 4 life, my brothers.
@nixCraft
More on the multi, Iโ€™m currently using win 11, win 10, fedora, macos hi-sierra and whatever the latest (macOS) crap is.
@nixCraft Home all but windows, at work windows and linux but not enough linux
@nixCraft do appliances like pfSense count for BSD?

If not then I canโ€™t quite say all of the above ๐Ÿ˜‚
@nixCraft Windows 'cause some proprietary software I use in my job. Linux for everything that counts

@nixCraft I answered everything but *BSD.

Windows 11 for creating music and playing computer games.

Mac for work and developing stuff.

Linux for free time and developing stuff.

@nixCraft I actually use both Linux and Windows but what I usually do is primarily in Linux
@nixCraft @torsten Actually I am transitioning from Windows to FreeBSD. The new system still has some troublesโ€ฆ
@nixCraft I have all of these operating systems in my house right now. Linux, MacOS and Windows are all one the desk in front of me. I'm connected to the internet through a FreeBSD 13.1 machine. Then there's the RasPis and other hosts and VMs around the house. And also administer all of them remotely at another premises for work.
Can you add an All Of The Above option?
@nixCraft Linux on servers and anything headless, and Windows on the desktop. And containerizing as much as possible.

@nixCraft

Laptop is Windows 11, but it's mostly just a vehicle for running or accessing Linux VMs.

@nixCraft at first I was surprised Linux was so high, then I remembered this was Mastodon
@nixCraft my potential answer(s) depend on which device Iโ€™m using.
@nixCraft I keep trying to install linux on my 2019 macbook pro and the keyboard never works. Incredibly frustrating how apple makes their products more and more proprietary every year.
@nixCraft Yes? Canโ€™t vote because I donโ€™t use only one.
@nixCraft Linux at home, Windows at work
@nixCraft Does WSL count? I am beginning my story with dual booting though.
@nixCraft mac os for my laptop, windows for my desktop, BSD for my home servers, linux for my work servers ( and for the steam deck I guessโ€ฆ)
@nixCraft I guess Qubes-os falls into linux category
@nixCraft donโ€™t just use one OS. Linux is the main service OS. macOS on the laptop.
@nixCraft I prefer Linux for real work. I have a Linux desktop at home and a
Windoze laptop, partly because there is no software to let me scan from my all-in-one printer. I have a Windoze work laptop but I think that's because the company doesn't supply Macs to contractors.
@nixCraft I use Linux on my private machine, macOS for work, and Windows for work with my current client.
@nixCraft @somcak This is coming from my #ios device. I have two pc. The one I use most often has Trisquel #GNU #Linux and runs the Mate desktop. #FOSS So, I voted "GNU/Linux". How interesting, my IOS Mastodon client preselected that option.
@nixCraft I use all of these, (although not currently BSD)
@nixCraft I've worked with Linux, Mac and Windows but Windows is what I use the most.

@nixCraft
-Transitioning to a Linux distro after Windows 10's lifecycle
- Started as a Windows user as a wee sprout
- Forced to use MacOS because that's what my parents use and its too complicated to network the printer/scanner with the current setup.

Main OS is Win 10. I will not be maining Win 11 if I can help it. ๐Ÿ˜’ They will only take me kicking and screaming.

@nixCraft Simply because some apps that are important to me only run on Windows.
@nixCraft Linux just doesn't work for what I need from my daily driver, and the constant debugging is not what I want.
It's fun to mess around with but it's definitely not user friendly. And no mint doesn't work. It's the same problems with a skin.
@nixCraft
Used Linux since late 2005, although mostly ChromeOS in past 2 yrs ... but that is technically still Linux, as I also run Linux apps on my device, too.
@nixCraft I use them all but voted for my most often used one.
@nixCraft Seems lots of masto people are biased towards linux, I'm a windows user myself although if I'm honest more out of convenience than any true love for the OS. And if you virtualbox into a lightweight Linux distro then it's kinda the best of both worlds. Although I still try do as much as possible on Windows if I can help it.
@nixCraft 1 Mac 10.4, 3 Linux Mint, 2 OpenBSD, 7 FreeBSD, if/when they're all running. The other B&W has run old (v6 something,) OpenBSD as my mail archiver since installed.
@nixCraft Proud Windows NT / Linux dual-booter since Y2K, but currently Windows / WSL 2 except on embedded and Chromebooks
@nixCraft Of those options: openbsd, followed by void linux. But actual first preference is Solaris. All of my "real work" happens on the Solaris machine.
@nixCraft It's a good thing multiple entries were allowed, because I ticked three of the four.
@nixCraft I use Mac, iOS, Linux, and Windows on different machines. Each has their strengths. I enjoy open source software on all, but haven't yet tried an open source OS (to be fair, several Linux distros may have counted as open source).
@nixCraft windows for games which have issues with proton only
@nixCraft
My primary OS is Win11, but I have a dual-boot Linux install for emergencies/repairs.
@nixCraft Another for multiple or all of the above. I remember the old computer wars, gave up picking favorites a while back. I have things I like and dislike about each OS. But often the biggest difference to me is stuff like do I use port, winget, dnf, yum, or apt to install packages.

@nixCraft

No windows 7 option? Why just 10/11?

@nixCraft

Would this include every PlayStation owner that uses FreeBSD but doesn't know it?
