Movie #18: Old

I hadn't considered changing servers would break my movies thread, but here we are 🙃

Movie #19: TÁR
Movie #20: Infinity Pool
Movie #21: Fire of Love
Movie #22: Knock at the Cabin

Movie #23: Albulance

For the record, it's movie day at the Birchler household because I feel sick and don't want to do anything else.

Also, Patrick Willems has a great video that I watched afterwards and made me appreciate this one even more. https://youtu.be/vlEEjHWJhyY

Patrick Explains AMBULANCE (And Why It's Great)

Movie #24: The Fly
Movie #25: Kimi
Movie #26: Hereditary
Movie #27: Triangle of Sadness
Movie #28: Cocaine Bear
Movie #29: Ghost Ship
Movie #30: Bullet Train
Movie #31: Moonfall
Movie #32: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

Movie #33: Full Time (À Plein Temps)

Had to watch something a bit more down to earth after binging on a few action blockbusters in a row 😂

Movie #34: Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Movie #35: The Father
Movie #36: Dune
Movie #37: Alice, Darling

Movie #38: Avatar: The Way of Water

Cameron blew me away.

Oh, and it’s a shame the digital version is presented at a fixed 24fps. I don’t know if I would have liked it much, and I know it was in the theatrical release to help 3D screenings feel better, but would have been nice to have the option.

Movie #29: Rye Lane

Movie #30: Enys Men

Loving a good Saturday morning movie double-header 😁

Movie #31: Hot Fuzz
Movie #32: Scream 6
Movie #33: How to Blow Up a Pipeline

Movie #34: Evil Dead Rise

To my great shame, this is actually the first Evil Dead movie I’ve seen.

Movie #35: Air
Movie #36: Return to Seoul
Movie #37: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Movie #38: Perfect Blue

Movie #39: Contagion

BTW I make these mini reviews using https://quickreviews.app ✌️

Quick Reviews

Movie #40: Evil Dead (2013)

Movie #41: The Evil Dead

I decided to stop watching the series in reverse and get to the start.

Movie #42: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

It’s a coincidence, but it’s honestly perfect that this was my 42nd movie of the year.

Movie #43: Robocop

Movie #44: The Evil Dead

Watched again with friends, and my review from a few weeks ago still stands https://isfeeling.social/@matt/110480500496987707

Feeling Social

Movie #45: Evil Dead 2

I expect this to somehow be one of my less popular reviews, even though I liked it 🫣

Movie #46: Gremlins
Movie #47: Army of Darkness
Movie #48: Speed
Movie #49: Renfield
Movie #50 (halfway to my goal!): The Night House
Movie #51: The Game
Movie #52: Mad Max: Fury Road

Movie #53: Air Force One

Worried I'm going to lose followers over this one…

I’m just going to clarify my review scale real quick.

Great: unbelievable film going experiences. Very few movies fall in this category

Good: really good movie, but not something I’d bring to a “best movies of the decade” conversation

Okay: a solid film that I’m glad I watched, but didn’t really stand out for me. Maybe it’s not my style or maybe it’s kinda forgettable.

Poor: I’m actually annoyed I spent time watching this and I can’t recommend it to almost anyone.

@matt I haven’t watched AFO in over a decade, but I feel like I remember it having unusually exceptional pacing for its runtime.

@buffaloseven The runtime is under 2 hours, so it’s way shorter than basically all big budget movies these days 😝

Pacing was solid, though!

Movie #54: Asteroid City
Movie #55: Hamilton
@matt It’s the kind of thing I’d love to see in immersive video on visionOS.
@matt You need a box beyond great for Hamilton.

@matt I love that he does his thing, but it didn’t quite work for me. The meta-ness was quite jarring. But the style and comedy were top notch.

I probably need a second viewing to take it in proerly

@matt gasp! I love this movie! But you're not wrong 🤣 Not a lot of substance there
@joshgammon haha I mean it’s fine! I enjoyed it enough, it just didn’t bowl me over.
@matt It’s ok, we’ve already astablished you have terrible taste.
@ChrisLawley One of us has bad taste, but I’m not sure it’s me 😏
@matt That’s ok, I’m sure it’s you. 😜
@matt If it’s a 90’s action thriller with Harrison Ford and he’s NOT playing Jack Ryan, I don’t want anything to do with it
@matt You just about have enough goodwill built up to look past this! 🤦
@matt Is that Harrison Ford? I discovered him in Shrinking!!!!
@matt hm, I've never even heard of this

@matt I’m
astonished no one caught the „boot“.

Great little eateregg.

@matt awww come on!! Such an amazing ride with one hell of a Goldsmith score.
@tchaten It was okay! I enjoyed it fine!
@matt Next thing you’ll be telling me The Rock (Sean Connery/Cage) isn’t pure gold :) lol
@matt have you watched Hidden Figures or The Help?
Favourite feel-good movie for me is That Thing You Do! I love the music (and Liv Tyler)
@pauls @matt Hidden Figs and The Help are both awesome ⭐️
@ravipatel @pauls Haven’t seen them, but I should one day!
@matt awww sad to hear love this one didn’t see until later on - great score too
@matt Having seen all of them many times, I too prefer the first one. Haven't seen the latest though, but I really want to!

@Granneman Good to know I’m not alone 😅

I really recommend the newest one. Definitely not goofy, but it really worked for me.

@matt one of my all time favourite movies
@matt I saw a bunch of Verhoeven's films for the first time in the cinema last year leading up to RoboCop's 35th anniversary. RoboCop actually ended up being the least compelling imo
@matt I see what you did there
@matt Haha.
So great though, right? Gwen’s universe was really beautiful wasn’t it. I’ve listened to the soundtrack several times already which is something I did with the first film. Daniel Pemberton is one of the most underrated composers out there.
@jonathanreed Really great through and through!
@matt Glad you enjoyed this! I need to rewatch them soon, Army of Darkness is so ridiculous and fun. And as I mentioned before, check out the TV show Ash vs. Evil Dead when you finish the films, it’s really good.
@matt Are you using an app for your reviews or is this something you rolled on your own? They look great!
@matt Never mind, I found your quickreviews.app — awesome! Thanks!
@hiro Yes sir! I should probably add a link to it every few posts in thread so it’s easier to find 😋
@matt Michelle Rodriguez FTW
