Movie #18: Old

I hadn't considered changing servers would break my movies thread, but here we are 🙃

Movie #19: TÁR
Movie #20: Infinity Pool
Movie #21: Fire of Love
Movie #22: Knock at the Cabin

Movie #23: Albulance

For the record, it's movie day at the Birchler household because I feel sick and don't want to do anything else.

Also, Patrick Willems has a great video that I watched afterwards and made me appreciate this one even more. https://youtu.be/vlEEjHWJhyY

Movie #25: Kimi
Movie #26: Hereditary

Movie #28: Cocaine Bear
Movie #29: Ghost Ship
Movie #30: Bullet Train
Movie #31: Moonfall
Movie #32: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

Movie #33: Full Time (À Plein Temps)

Had to watch something a bit more down to earth after binging on a few action blockbusters in a row 😂

Movie #34: Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Movie #35: The Father
Movie #36: Dune
Movie #37: Alice, Darling

Movie #38: Avatar: The Way of Water

Cameron blew me away.

Oh, and it’s a shame the digital version is presented at a fixed 24fps. I don’t know if I would have liked it much, and I know it was in the theatrical release to help 3D screenings feel better, but would have been nice to have the option.

Movie #29: Rye Lane

Movie #30: Enys Men

Loving a good Saturday morning movie double-header 😁

Movie #31: Hot Fuzz
Movie #32: Scream 6
Movie #33: How to Blow Up a Pipeline

Movie #34: Evil Dead Rise

To my great shame, this is actually the first Evil Dead movie I’ve seen.

Movie #35: Air
Movie #36: Return to Seoul
Movie #37: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Movie #38: Perfect Blue

Movie #39: Contagion

BTW I make these mini reviews using https://quickreviews.app ✌️

Quick Reviews

Movie #40: Evil Dead (2013)

Movie #41: The Evil Dead

I decided to stop watching the series in reverse and get to the start.

Movie #42: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

It’s a coincidence, but it’s honestly perfect that this was my 42nd movie of the year.

@matt I see what you did there
@matt Haha.
So great though, right? Gwen’s universe was really beautiful wasn’t it. I’ve listened to the soundtrack several times already which is something I did with the first film. Daniel Pemberton is one of the most underrated composers out there.
@matt Glad you enjoyed this! I need to rewatch them soon, Army of Darkness is so ridiculous and fun. And as I mentioned before, check out the TV show Ash vs. Evil Dead when you finish the films, it’s really good.
@matt Watch the making of if you can, because is as fun as the movie itself. Although it is known that this was a low budget movie, the level of precariousness mixed with the genius of that 20 year old Sam Raimi is just outstanding.
@ideimos I just know a bit about the filming process, but I’ll seek out a bit more. It definitely felt scrappy. You could tell they were getting the most out of very little, and they were having fun doing it.
@matt I watched Contagion at the height of the pandemic (because of course I did) and found it interesting in comparing what they got right (quite a lot) and what they didn't. I can see how the pseudo-documentary feel of it might put some people off, though.
@stanjames Haha yeah, I’m deep on Soderbergh, so the style didn’t bother me, it just didn’t…click for whatever reason. Happens 😁
@matt It's a weird film to watch now. I wonder how I would have reacted to it if I'd seen it originally in the quaint old time of 2011? Supposedly Soderbergh is working on a sequel, though I have no idea how that would work, other than the title absolutely *must* be Contagion 2: Pandemic Boogaloo.
@matt Are you using an app for your reviews or is this something you rolled on your own? They look great!
@matt Never mind, I found your quickreviews.app — awesome! Thanks!
@hiro Yes sir! I should probably add a link to it every few posts in thread so it’s easier to find 😋
@matt Michelle Rodriguez FTW
@matt I ended up being pleasantly surprised by Air. Thought it was way better than it had any right to be
@matt saw it yesterday!
@matt I briefly thought this was part of 365 albums. And now I wonder what a late-80s Ben Affleck album would sound like. Not good, I am guessing.
@_kit I think the odds of it being good are low, but the odds of me listening to that if it existed are 100% 😛

@matt ‼️

You need to remedy this.

@matt If/when you end up watching the originals, make sure you include the tv series Ash vs. Evil Dead too, it might be my favourite part of the franchise tbh.
@matt They are all great, so you are in for a treat! I also recommend the Ash vs Evil Dead TV show.
@matt Love these sharp yet complete reviews.
@matt this is a great movie.

@matt I fall into the same category - huge fan of the trilogy.

I’m not sure how it’s happened but my Wife and I quote Hot Fuzz to each other almost daily 😂

@Beetee Oh yeah, same here 😂

“Yarp” and “narp”

“Stop this mindless violence!”

“You’re off the fucking chain!”

“Here come the fuzz”

“A BIG BUSHY BEARD”

Not a day goes by without at least one of those.

@matt it's SO GOOD
@Barredo I was really not prepared to love it! The first movie was fine, but this one was incredible. One of the rare 3 hour movies that made me check the time remaining and wish there was a bit more.
@matt so sad there isn’t a HFR 3D release for VR headsets would be incredible - maybe - Apple can snag that?! Incredible in theaters. As a new father this movie hit hard watching in theaters at that time
@matt the HFR here was used sparingly. I’d estimate 40% of the film was HFR. I’m not anti HFR, but I despised the constant swaps (often many times in one scene). They were noticeable and distracting, and I’m still mad my money was conned out of me. Not worth it.
@matt I also watched this recently, for the first time, and enjoyed it a lot. I did find the dialogue levels very difficult to follow throughout, which mostly just bummed me out because it was all so well done that I didn’t want to miss anything.
@matt I watched it recently and it’s fresh and remarkable (I’m new to Dune however).
@matt Florian Zeller? Am I missing something 🤔
@ravipatel Nope, you have caught an oversight in my post 🤦‍♂️ Fixed!
@matt Didn’t think recent French movies where reaching overseas audience.
@eiffair Very few! Modern, non-English European films are definitely a blind spot for me.
@matt We are lucky enough to have a big movie industry in France, 150 French movies in 2022 which is enormous regarding the small country we are. Actually, there is an important funding system to support it.
