i wanna be in a book club but not like a book club where we read the same book. i wanna read my own book in silence in a room of other people reading silently, drinking wine or other beverages of your choice and ofc baked goods or some kind of cheese board.
@missy_lynn
You are set up for a beautiful life. You will be able to create a similar atmosphere in married bliss-so long as your partner enjoys reading as much as you do.
@missy_lynn I would love that kind of book club.

@missy_lynn I!

I found a Meetup in my area that has what you described. More people may be looking for that than you think.

@missy_lynn

I will join this book club but we will have to meet at my house

@Studio_Gal that kitty definitely makes the rules!
@missy_lynn Silent reading groups just like that sprang up during Covid. I've been to a few! Although without cheese.
@aka_quant_noir sounds like an opportunity for you to level them up! 🧀
@missy_lynn Unfortunately the local group meets on Sundays which is usually a bad day for me due to dad care issues. But next time I can go I will def. bring da cheez!
@missy_lynn Sounds like a small time coffee shop
@missy_lynn This should be a secret society.
@missy_lynn I used to hold a games night that was mostly like that - 6 or 8 people in the dining room playing a game, a dozen more scattered around the house reading something from our bookshelves and occasionally wandering back to the kitchen for more beer or iced tea or cookies.
@missy_lynn Sounds perfect. Then forget the book - even better!

@missy_lynn

That would be a Group Chill-Read

@missy_lynn @pixiecata there’s actually a group in my city that do this - a silent reading party where people gather at a cafe or pub or park and just read their books
@missy_lynn adult social night at the library, let's fucking go.
@missy_lynn @pseudonym I’d join that book club in a heartbeat!
@missy_lynn I want that, but alone in my bedroom with the cheese board.

@missy_lynn We had this as a sleepover program when I went to Elementary School!

It was awesome. Thanks for reminding me :)

I guess kids aren't always silent but there was enough space for both socializing and reading in quiet.

@missy_lynn There's a bookshop / café in the town near my eldest that hosts silent reading evenings. Lovely.
