I'm sorry but this is just the funniest shit ever.

These losers were mad that celebs had checkmarks and they didn't. Now they can buy the same checkmark and they're mad that the celebs won't.

@rodhilton they're more mad they're not celeb enough for Elon to comp them lmao

@hammancheez it's even funnier the celebs being comped are demanding the checkmark be removed.

It provides negative value to them, it's not even worthless.

@rodhilton reuppin ma #bluecheck #meme because I think I nailed it fam
@rodhilton @hammancheez one step closer to the blue check being legally considered defamation
@rodhilton @hammancheez it’d be a lot funnier if the celebs just left the bird turd site.
@hammancheez @rodhilton may I suggest that the user catturd2 is shitposting
@katieonviolin @hammancheez @rodhilton
You may, but it's much more fun to imagine people being really pissed of about it, so we're just going to ignore you, in true social media style 😁
@MennoWolff @katieonviolin @rodhilton if you are saying 'catturd is satire' I respectfully disagree a lot, I think that choad believes 100% of what they post
@hammancheez @katieonviolin @rodhilton I honestly don't know and I seriously don't care.
I'm enjoying it here on Mastodon, so it doesn't matter to me. I still look at Twitter every once in a while, to see if I middens anything, but I don't care much about it.
I must say I do have schadenfreude at seeing Twitter sinking into the ground.

@MennoWolff @katieonviolin @rodhilton I'm not saying Twitter was the library of congress or anything but I do think it had some interesting dynamics and merit (and I say this as someone who was banned for 2 years and never got a human to review it). the gap in functionality of things like emergency alerts and crowdsourced realtime updates for protests and things also worries me.

Obviously Elon can fuck himself forever tho

@hammancheez @katieonviolin @rodhilton oh, absolutely. It's the same for me. Twitter had a lot that Mastodon doesn't, but a certain toddler got his eye on it and is intent on breaking it. Fine, I'll be watching from the side.
I think one of the best things about the bird site was that it had practically everyone there. I do feel like Mastodon is an echo chamber. All who hate musk left, so that's a certain section of the political spectrum.
@rodhilton And, "thinking that you're better than Elon Musk fans" is in no way the same as "thinking that you're better than everyone else".
@rodhilton These people love being outraged.
@rodhilton The funniest move would be for Twitter to charge these people to remove the check.
@andyb @rodhilton i would make a new account to watch that go down

@rodhilton They think that Musk's takeover is the seed of some sort of revolution - like the shadows of the internet they've previously been denizens of have taken over the light.

Unfortunately, all they're succeeding in doing is pushing the light elsewhere.

These idiots are nothing without someone to troll and all their targets are buggering off. And they're so mad about it.

@rodhilton It's incredible to think that this moron who identifies at cat feces has the ear of one of the world's most rich and powerful men. What a joke
@0xamit it’s nuts isn’t it. Guy is one of the most influential people on the platform

@0xamit @rodhilton

Like Taibbi and Weiss before him, only as long as he shares his cruelty to transgenders, liberals, and what pleases Musk.

One day, he’ll be tossed aside like a rag doll.

@staidwinnow
Taibbi was a moron for falling into this crap with Elon. I'm glad this whole thing happened. I heard that taibbi is now in trump's platform? Lol
@rodhilton
@0xamit @staidwinnow @rodhilton Taibbi had already gone down a far right rabbit hole and was a lost cause way before this all happened. I've lost all respect for him.
@rodhilton
They are just angry; mostly because the person they are really angry at are themselves.
@rodhilton I think it's more of the how (verification) as opposed to the why (money)… Isn't that obvious?
@rodhilton Degenerate fucktards. Lmao.

@rodhilton Lol. It's because $8 didn't buy them the celebrity they believe they're due as "catturd". So now the pouting begins.

"Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm gonna eat cat turds today..."

@rodhilton

Not to mention that people such as that are *extreme* supporters of unbridled capitalism who worship & idolize people they think have gobs of money (regardless of how they got it or how they use it). Dropped that view rather quickly when they felt slighted & not included in the "monied popularity club."

@rodhilton
I will usually read something funny, and think it's funny.
Sometimes--like now--I will LOL.

Try to imagine being the person who is proud of being behind an account called "Catturd." Fucking pathos.

@rodhilton

I'm wondering if they're genuinely that thick or it's performative.

@rodhilton It’s like Stars on Thars.
@rodhilton Ok, I am totally lost because I tried to consume less #SpaceKaren news. But this seems super confusing to me. So I get that there is #Twitterblue now it is 8 $/m and as a celebrity you need it to keep your authentication. But it is also available for everybody who is willing to pay? So is there a process to get the check marks? Are they verifying peoples identities? Because if they do not what is the benefit of the check mark. Besides proving you had 8 $, right? What am I missing?

@lazy_dragon You’ve got it right. The check mark doesn’t mean verified anymore, it only means you paid. Because Musk isn’t trying to verify people, he’s trying to monetize blue checks because he knew they had value but didn’t understand why.

If it was just about verification, a one-time fee for unverified users would have been enough, not a monthly fee. And even then, there’s no reason to verify average people because nobody was impersonating them.

@lazy_dragon @rodhilton you’re not missing anything. in the old days, you had to go through a serious verification process to get that check. i understand it to have been a big undertaking to get. which was great. it = trust. now you pay $8. that’s it. there is no value to the check. it does not = trust. and that’s what they - the turds - refused to understand and accept.
@amongmadpeeps @rodhilton Ok, I kind of get it … I think. So it is like a NFT. You are paying to get a worthless online token and some internet bro is making money off you. So it is another #SpaceKaren grift. But I mean it might work.
“No one […] has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses […]."
@lazy_dragon @rodhilton it might work. i mean, look at rupert murdoch’s empire. elin’s got the money to through at the thing. So does the Saudi Arabian Kingdom Holding Company, the 2nd largest shareholder of twitter

@rodhilton

The fact that MAGA *still* fail to realize how they are being exploited by rich Republicans is amusing.

Musk has imposed these celebrity blue checks on people who refuse to pay him.

And MAGA *still* don't understand the implications of that thinking & what it reveals about the mindset of Republican billionaire donors.

Modern Republican & Tory policy is funded by billionaires to impose the unwanted on anyone who isn't a billionaire.

They *still* don't recognize that as fascism.

@rodhilton sorry, looks like this wasn't actually the problem you thought it was and you're just going to be miserable forever, Mr. Turd
@rodhilton the checkmark isn’t even a status thing; it’s a safety thing. Like there is no point for me to have a checkmark because I’m nobody. What would anyone gain by impersonating me? But someone on here impersonated Bradley Cooper and tried to lure me into a human trafficking scam.
@rodhilton I liked it when only the morons and bots had blue check marks. That way you could just block all the accounts with blue moron marks and be happy.
@rodhilton: Because not paying $8 for a silly checkmark is exactly what snobs do.
@rodhilton It is almost painful to watch. They want to be loved so much by the people they hate.
@rodhilton Do these actually have a brain? I’m not on Twitter anymore. But maybe you can suggest to them they could stop paying to get rid of their blue check and look like they are celebrities… 🤣 🥳

@rodhilton

Can we call him Sneetchturd?

@rodhilton
Having a check used to mean you were real. Now it means you're real dumb
@rodhilton I can't believe that Twitter had all the politicians, all the celebs, all the journalists posting free content, and they've just thrown it away. This is going to be a spectacular business case on how not to run a social network.
@rodhilton it's virtue signaling when people choose not the buy the check, and it's elitism when they do. Conservatives think everyone else is incapable of authentic ethics or judgement because they are incapable of it.

@rodhilton

The blue checkmark was popular precisely because you could not buy it. It was a meaningless pissing contest invented by Twitter. Now that anyone can buy it, nobody wants to.

@rodhilton Yeah. And why pay money to get more exposure in an alt-right troll hell?
@rodhilton that cat needs to be in a mental institution.
@rodhilton Sadly, he’s right. Where’s the value in buying the checkmark if the celebrities, journalists, and other notable people no longer have it?
