I'm sorry but this is just the funniest shit ever.
These losers were mad that celebs had checkmarks and they didn't. Now they can buy the same checkmark and they're mad that the celebs won't.

@hammancheez it's even funnier the celebs being comped are demanding the checkmark be removed.
It provides negative value to them, it's not even worthless.
The blue checkmark is digital cooties.
@MennoWolff @katieonviolin @rodhilton I'm not saying Twitter was the library of congress or anything but I do think it had some interesting dynamics and merit (and I say this as someone who was banned for 2 years and never got a human to review it). the gap in functionality of things like emergency alerts and crowdsourced realtime updates for protests and things also worries me.
Obviously Elon can fuck himself forever tho
@rodhilton They think that Musk's takeover is the seed of some sort of revolution - like the shadows of the internet they've previously been denizens of have taken over the light.
Unfortunately, all they're succeeding in doing is pushing the light elsewhere.
These idiots are nothing without someone to troll and all their targets are buggering off. And they're so mad about it.
Like Taibbi and Weiss before him, only as long as he shares his cruelty to transgenders, liberals, and what pleases Musk.
One day, he’ll be tossed aside like a rag doll.
@rodhilton Lol. It's because $8 didn't buy them the celebrity they believe they're due as "catturd". So now the pouting begins.
"Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm gonna eat cat turds today..."
Not to mention that people such as that are *extreme* supporters of unbridled capitalism who worship & idolize people they think have gobs of money (regardless of how they got it or how they use it). Dropped that view rather quickly when they felt slighted & not included in the "monied popularity club."
@rodhilton
I will usually read something funny, and think it's funny.
Sometimes--like now--I will LOL.
Try to imagine being the person who is proud of being behind an account called "Catturd." Fucking pathos.
I'm wondering if they're genuinely that thick or it's performative.
@lazy_dragon You’ve got it right. The check mark doesn’t mean verified anymore, it only means you paid. Because Musk isn’t trying to verify people, he’s trying to monetize blue checks because he knew they had value but didn’t understand why.
If it was just about verification, a one-time fee for unverified users would have been enough, not a monthly fee. And even then, there’s no reason to verify average people because nobody was impersonating them.
The fact that MAGA *still* fail to realize how they are being exploited by rich Republicans is amusing.
Musk has imposed these celebrity blue checks on people who refuse to pay him.
And MAGA *still* don't understand the implications of that thinking & what it reveals about the mindset of Republican billionaire donors.
Modern Republican & Tory policy is funded by billionaires to impose the unwanted on anyone who isn't a billionaire.
They *still* don't recognize that as fascism.
Can we call him Sneetchturd?
The blue checkmark was popular precisely because you could not buy it. It was a meaningless pissing contest invented by Twitter. Now that anyone can buy it, nobody wants to.
