I have a feeling I'm about to get a lot of activity today

@rodhilton I'm no expert but it's a success cos it didn't explode immediately.

Which is why I don't drive those cars.

@3rdSectorMichael @rodhilton the same cars that switch off auto drive just before an accident so they can say the the driver was in control at the point of impact for legal reasons...πŸ˜‚
@rodhilton - I became dubious when he grossly overpaid for Twitter and then wrecked it. That didn’t seem like a genius move. That seemed like a guy with a huge emotional problem letting it destroy his life.

@rodhilton
@timberwraith

Needs to be updated. Apparently he doesn't know much more than NASA about building rockets either.

@beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith
The government-funded Saturn rocket that took humans to the moon never had one blow up in flight, #JustSayin

@GreenFire @rodhilton @timberwraith

Very shortly the Artemis program will have accomplished more than SpaceX has.

@beforewisdom I hate to break it to you, but SpaceX is building the lander
@beforewisdom @GreenFire @rodhilton @timberwraith SpaceX is actually part of the Artemis program -- the lunar lander is to be based on Starship.

@GreenFire @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith

So first, I'm a rocket nerd so I've got to get semantic (sorry).
This isn't meant to be a defense of Elon, because the man is an asshole at best. This is meant to be a defense of SpaceX's testing & development strategy. The starship blew up because it was told to because it lost control.

Traditional space programs such as the Saturn V, try to get everything perfect for the very first flight. This requires an insane amount of testing, modeling and simulations to try to predict and prevent every possible failure scenario. This is very slow and insanely expensive.

SpaceX on the other hand, still does lots of testing. (You can check out NasaSpaceFlight's livestream of SpaceX's McGregor test facility. But they prefer to start building and flying things earlier in the process. This starship is/was much earlier along in the development process than the Saturn V was by the time it first flew.

@umaxtu @GreenFire @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith Suddenly people are against rocket reuse saying single use rockets are better? We should go with the SLS solution which was supposed to fly years ago but never did until recently costing taxpayers tens of billions of dollars all so some Alabama senator can keep his constituents employed? How about recognizing Gwen Shotwell the woman who has made SpaceX the leader in the LEO payload industry.
@bassplayer @umaxtu @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith
All of a sudden Nazi supporters are coming out of the woodwork.
@GreenFire @umaxtu @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith Congratulations you are the very first person to call me a nazi, ever, all for talking about technology. Notice I didn't say anything about Musk and called out a woman's contributions on making SpaceX a leader in its field. Yet for you all things musk is evil. Even the engineers working at his companies? Not very egalitarian of you.

@bassplayer @umaxtu @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith
Yes, because of ELoon has posted his support for Nazism, I don't support him nor his corporations.

Pardon me for thinking that everything a Nazi supports is bad. I suggest that if you don't support Nazis than don't voice support for their projects, but that's up to you.

If it helps you feel better, I've been called a Nazi for decades because of my climate advocacy.

@GreenFire @umaxtu @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith I have so many questions. So some engineer hires on to a company and some time later the owner of said company goes unhinged and now that engineer should what? Have known better? Quit his job? Sell his house? What happens if a nazi lives in my state, should I move? Should I move out of the states because it was started by slave owners. Where would I go that doesn't already have some shittyness associated with it?
@bassplayer @umaxtu @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith
Well I left academia because they were not treating global warming like the crisis it is, so yes I recommend that if your boss makes it clear that he/her is a Nazi than if you continue working there than you are complicit.
@GreenFire @umaxtu @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith By your logic you're are racist if Nazis have a bank account in your bank. My point being you put ideology over people. I like to think I treat people on a case by case basis. 10/10 for trolling through. I fell for the ol your a nazi thing. My original point still stands, spacex tech is better and cheaper than repurposed constellation tech that is decades old tech so I would rather save the money and spend it elsewhere.

@GreenFire @bassplayer @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith

Are you talking about the actual nazis involved with the space program like Von Braun? Or are you calling Musk a nazi?

@umaxtu @bassplayer @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith
ELoon associates with Nazis, promotes Nazis, and posts Nazi memes and conspiracy theories so yeah I think he's a Nazi, but maybe he's trying to take the Harlan Crow billionaire defense that he wants to associate himself with them without being accused of harboring their Ideology, idk.

@GreenFire @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith Saturn-Apollo 2 and Saturn-Apollo 3, two of the robotic test launches using the Saturn I early in the Apollo program, were both scuttled a few minutes into flight.

But they were both designed and intended to be exploded; with large tanks of water in place of an actual spacecraft - to make clouds that were easier to observe.

@beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith Musk is a horrible human being, but NASA doesn't have the ability to launch astronauts to the space station -- it relies on SpaceX. The company also launched more mass to orbit last year than the rest of the world combined. He's terrible, but his company makes great rockets.
@rodhilton that’s unfair! His cars hardly crash and not all his rockets explode. And of all his social network software only one sucks balls.

@rodhilton A man claiming to be a software engineer takes over a company, and wanting to look at his workers' code, asks them to print it out.

Now, the most coding I've ever done has been a couple of WoW addons, but I still know what a VCS is.

@rodhilton LOL. It is possible for people to be good in some areas and ignorant in others. His problem is he is getting out of his real scope.
@MyOpinion @rodhilton His real scope is taking other people's ideas and lying all the time.
@MyOpinion @rodhilton His "real scope" is "running a business where every employee understands that their job is to make the boss look smart."
@rodhilton Image reposted with #AltText
@liquor_american @rodhilton 100% this.
When he started talking about social media, I know a thing or two about social media, and I thought, man, this guy is clueless.
@liquor_american @rodhilton Some of his cars seem to have a rapid unscheduled disassembly of the batteries with similar results as his rockets.

@liquor_american @rodhilton Elon Musk is a man-baby who used his daddy's money to form PayPal. He used this money to buy a small car company called Tesla, then used more money to hire the best designers in the business to design a world beating car.

He's not the Messiah, he's a very wealthy boy.

@rodhilton well, the dude who reposted your image with alt text is, anyway
@rodhilton KA … BOOM πŸ’₯
@rodhilton I’ve heard has created #RUD. The new Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly feature included in his rocket design. Brilliant man.
@rodhilton i like to think gwynne shotwell deserves the credit much more than him
@rodhilton I was just telling my wife that for a guy who's claimed to be a genius, everything he's touched/bought/owned in the past 5-7 years has been destroyed.
@rodhilton Musk is a mess and a moron but people don’t really understand how engineering works if they think today was a failure.
@rodhilton I do know about space exploration and he says outrageously stupid shit about that, too. Don't get distracted by rockets. Listen (or rather, don't listen) to what he says about living on Mars.
@carolynporco @rodhilton I find it amusing when he explains that the sun will eventually expand to engulf the Earth and so we had better be a multi-planetary species. Yes, we better get our act together before that happens in about four billion years.

@rodhilton I have a mental image of Elon watching car cameras alongside his misbehaving staff. Why do I have this image in my head?

I was working at a company of yesteryear when one of the engineers got his hands on an animated gif of sex. He had a green screen. Green people sex.

Being engineers, few had seen a sexy gif. 'Twas an anatomy class. As all gathered around, I noticed the owner, who might have knocked engineers out of the way.

I have no idea why I have this image in my head. πŸ™„ 😜

@rodhilton A-fucking-men!! I've decided he's not a genius - he's Forrest Gump.
@rodhilton He's not a genius, he paid for the genius of others then took the credit for their efforts, I used to support him for supporting innovation, then I learned how he pays for his ventures, he sells vaporware to gullible investors, the hyperloop being the most outstanding one.

@rodhilton
You brave, brave man. I wouldn't impose Elon's shit on my worst enemy.
You took the plunge and for that, you deserve our praise -
If, and only if, you compile a "best-of" collection for us.

How about it? In exchange for my eternal* gratitude?

@rodhilton I mean he sure has built the rocket that has dug the deepest
