@rodhilton I'm no expert but it's a success cos it didn't explode immediately.
Which is why I don't drive those cars.
Needs to be updated. Apparently he doesn't know much more than NASA about building rockets either.
@GreenFire @rodhilton @timberwraith
Very shortly the Artemis program will have accomplished more than SpaceX has.
@GreenFire @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith
So first, I'm a rocket nerd so I've got to get semantic (sorry).
This isn't meant to be a defense of Elon, because the man is an asshole at best. This is meant to be a defense of SpaceX's testing & development strategy. The starship blew up because it was told to because it lost control.
Traditional space programs such as the Saturn V, try to get everything perfect for the very first flight. This requires an insane amount of testing, modeling and simulations to try to predict and prevent every possible failure scenario. This is very slow and insanely expensive.
SpaceX on the other hand, still does lots of testing. (You can check out NasaSpaceFlight's livestream of SpaceX's McGregor test facility. But they prefer to start building and flying things earlier in the process. This starship is/was much earlier along in the development process than the Saturn V was by the time it first flew.

Yes, because of ELoon has posted his support for Nazism, I don't support him nor his corporations.
Pardon me for thinking that everything a Nazi supports is bad. I suggest that if you don't support Nazis than don't voice support for their projects, but that's up to you.
If it helps you feel better, I've been called a Nazi for decades because of my climate advocacy.
@GreenFire @bassplayer @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith
Are you talking about the actual nazis involved with the space program like Von Braun? Or are you calling Musk a nazi?
@GreenFire @beforewisdom @rodhilton @timberwraith Saturn-Apollo 2 and Saturn-Apollo 3, two of the robotic test launches using the Saturn I early in the Apollo program, were both scuttled a few minutes into flight.
But they were both designed and intended to be exploded; with large tanks of water in place of an actual spacecraft - to make clouds that were easier to observe.
@rodhilton A man claiming to be a software engineer takes over a company, and wanting to look at his workers' code, asks them to print it out.
Now, the most coding I've ever done has been a couple of WoW addons, but I still know what a VCS is.
@liquor_american @rodhilton Elon Musk is a man-baby who used his daddy's money to form PayPal. He used this money to buy a small car company called Tesla, then used more money to hire the best designers in the business to design a world beating car.
He's not the Messiah, he's a very wealthy boy.

@rodhilton I have a mental image of Elon watching car cameras alongside his misbehaving staff. Why do I have this image in my head?
I was working at a company of yesteryear when one of the engineers got his hands on an animated gif of sex. He had a green screen. Green people sex.
Being engineers, few had seen a sexy gif. 'Twas an anatomy class. As all gathered around, I noticed the owner, who might have knocked engineers out of the way.
I have no idea why I have this image in my head. π π
@rodhilton
You brave, brave man. I wouldn't impose Elon's shit on my worst enemy.
You took the plunge and for that, you deserve our praise -
If, and only if, you compile a "best-of" collection for us.
How about it? In exchange for my eternal* gratitude?
