I just want to say that if I ever get on the Supreme Court I am going to be reasonable. I will not require you to ply me with private jets and yachts to private estates and exclusive famous resorts and $5k bottles of wine.

Business class (or even economy plus) to an AirBnB in Maui and six or seven boxes of those Cutwater Mai Tais would totally do the trick. Then I will TOTALLY stop deferring to Chevron. I will not defer to ANY gas stations.

I am a man of the people.

@Yup_Its_Holly @Popehat We don't even vote for president. We vote for people who will then approve a nomination, and then we vote for people who will vote for whom we assume it is our pick for president.
So far, because as things are going, those elected to vote for president can be replaced if their pick does not satisfy the republican party.

@Popehat Legal question (I’m told you are good with this stuff). Is Thomas taking expensive vacations and not reporting them on taxes illegal? Or is it considered a gift and that the giver should report it and pay the gift tax and go to jail? Or is it a legitimate business expense?

@paulc @Popehat We're not even talking about reporting gifts on taxes. That's another thing. The gift problem is in regards to whether they're acceptable at all, and if so, whether they have to be reported to the Court or to Congress or whatever. He says as long as his patron doesn't currently have a case before the court he doesn't have to report it, or worry about it, or think about its ethical considerations at all.
