The Mastodon community is growing by the minute. We ourselves have seen a massive influx of followers these last few months.
How likely is it that you will still be on #Mastodon next year?

@joao @Tutanota The problem is that most people don't understand what this all means, myself included. Please keep in mind that we're all coming from Facebook and Twitter. Everything was tightly controlled over there.
The Fediverse, however, is just one big ocean. People just want to board the first ship they see. Right now, that ship is Mastodon.

Let's make social media free, federated and fun! Fediverse.Party is your guide into the world of decentralized, autonomous networks running on free open software on a myriad of servers across the world. No ads and no algorithms. Join Fediverse and become part of the new interconnected Web!
Just remember... #Mastodon is just one service in the #Fediverse... 😎
@Tutanota mastodon is not the only platform on fedi
PrÖÖÖÖÖÖöÖöHHHHHhhhh :DDD
@hschmale @Tutanota I don't think you'll find what you're searching for here.
Don't get me wrong, there are some people doing that, but I feel this is not a good place for such things and the vast majority of users don't use this social that way.
A better place to find such things are blogs.
Here I appreciate the community building process and the societal development. It's not people following other people but rather creating meaningful relationships with other users, getting to know them and discovering what springs from common interests.
Generally, I interact with a few groups of people whom I share something with and only rarely I get to write things for the general public.
I do sometimes write extensive analysis on some topics, but these are generally in a discussion with somebody. As an example: I am a chemist and some time ago there was a discussion about the methodologies to deal with tear gas; so I helped them out by performing a literature review on the topic and providing them with extensive information about the different types of tear gases and possible remedies.
You give to other people and get from them.
I try to keep the amount of people I follow small, as that helps me to have a cleaner and more explorable home timeline.
None of the above. I mean yeah, I will likely still be "here" in a year, I don't see why not. But I can't say "Of course".
@Tutanota Mastodon dot social? Haven't been there in years, terrible place, I highly recommend moving off it.
Mastodon the server? Eh, it's working for now but it would not be my first choice for anything.
Fediverse, the ActivityPub network? Likely to be the only social network/sharing protocol for decades to come.
If the default character limit were raised to 2,500 Mastodon's popularity would explode fellow citizen Tutanota.
As humanity is too complex to discuss and debate in 500.
However I greatly appreciate Mastodon and it's many compassionate instances, and of course will remain and continue to wrangle with the restrictions as best as I can.

@SearingTruth I'm not sure. There are instances with 3,000–5,000-character limit.
* c.im – 5,000 (#Mastodon)
* hashi.icu – 300,000 (#Misskey)
* i.calckey.cloud – 3,000 (#Calckey, fork of Misskey)
* public.garden – 5,000 (#Rebased, fork of #Pleroma)
* c.wtf – 5,000 (Rebased)
Back in 2008, it did have an effect when the first #fediverse instances—other than the original (#identica)—showed up with more than 500-character limit. There were instances with 500; 1,000; 3,000; and 5,000; at least those I remember. Those were popular.
Thank you for the information fellow citizen youronlyone. I'll attempt to join one of them.

it's locked down anyway, nobody can join it.@Tutanota I'll always be here. I've been in the #fediverse since Evan, father of the fediverse, launched #Laconica (first software) and #Identica (first instance) when the network was still using the #OpenMicroBlogging protocol in 2008.
So, yeah, I'll always be here for as long as I breathe. ^_^
