• if you need an abortion (or had one) in a state where it’s illegal, don’t discuss it on social media at all, but ESPECIALLY not on Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp)
• if you need abortion pills, DO NOT search for them on Google. It sucks anyway. Use DuckDuckGo or another search engine.
• if you buy abortion pills, do it through a trusted third party who lives in a blue state.

Facebook, Google give police data to prosecute abortion seekers

Social-media sites are inundated with police requests for user data and may cooperate even if not legally required to, one legal expert told Insider.

There’s probably more you should do to evade arrest and prosecution for acquiring basic healthcare— I’m not an expert— but those three things appear to now be basic and essential. If you can manage a safe abortion without using the internet at all, that would be the way to go.
Many tech savvy people in the comments, as I knew there would be. Don’t miss what they have to add.
@JoParkerBear the EFF's SSD is always a good resource https://ssd.eff.org (surveillance self defense)

@JoParkerBear Using #TorBrowser to do the searching would also probably help.

#Tor

@JoParkerBear I’d also recommend using a reliable VPN service, to keep your local ISP from selling you out to the cops.

@JoParkerBear And, if things get really bad, consider using a privacy-oriented OS like Tails:

@JoParkerBear Sadly, not discussing abortion is also how it gets de-normalized. That’s not to say your advice isn’t extremely prudent, just that the fascist right’s not only discouraging individuals, it’s also preventing broader political action. It’s insidiously evil.
@JoParkerBear How sad it this? How did this happen? I wish RPG had retired and let POTUS get a chance to appoint a judge.
@JoParkerBear as a mother of 3 & grandmother of 3, I say There Must be Choice! Nobody’s biz but the woman’s. Some would say a woman shouldn’t have sex except for procreation. I say Oh hell no to that!!!
@JoParkerBear Duck Duck Go is Bing and shares data with Microsoft, so I worry about how secure it is. I suggest @Mojeek if people truly want safety from US Big Tech passing info on to police.
@JoParkerBear Duck duck go is saying it is safe but is isn’t. I”ll look for the link. Will take some time…
@JoParkerBear I'm hoping #opsec experts might address speak to the sufficiency of these recommendations.
@JoParkerBear Here's an idea: what if every man hid his photo and gender then posted on Facebook and Twitter details about his abortion? Flood the social media sites with fake info that covers the tracks for women.
@JoParkerBear
Do not track your menstrual cycles on a digital app - use a pen and paper in a small monthly datebook. Do not routinely tell your doctor when your last menstrual period was unless it is directly relevant to your medical condition. On the form for LMP just fill in “yes” or “normal.” Law enforcement can request apps and doctors to share this data.THEY CANT SHARE WHAT THEY DONT HAVE.
@JoParkerBear @rchusid Question about this: “• if you buy abortion pills, do it through a trusted third party who lives in a blue state.”—how would this even work? Wouldn’t the purchase need a doctor’s prescription and wouldn’t the doc verify the address of the patient somehow? Been wondering, as a blue state resident.
@cordeliane @JoParkerBear I think they are suggesting that someone in a safe blue state get the prescription locally and then send it to the person who actually needs it.
@cordeliane @rchusid yes— what Ron said. Basically, money laundering, but for medicine.
@JoParkerBear @rchusid Darn—so illegal, since the person ordering the prescription wouldn’t be the one using it.
@cordeliane @JoParkerBear No, not legal but I understand people resorting to such measures.
@JoParkerBear I can't believe this insanity. It's absolutely nuts that they get away with this persecution in 2023.
