This tweet comes unironically from the GOP, which loves giant defense budgets, wants to regulate women's bodies, wishes to tell schools what they can teach, desires a 1900-mile-long border wall, wants to increase the size of police forces, thinks the government should prevent drag story hours, is trying to track young women's periods, thinks social media companies need more regulation, is banning books from libraries, and is trying to tell doctors what prescriptions they can & can't write.
@augieray “Oh, not *that* kind of government.”
@augieray Of course what they mean is, “Shared responsibility for the public good should be so small that only the right people benefit from it."
classic East Palestine, Ohio moment.
@augieray Since Jim Jordan is so small (in stature as well as intelligence), I’m sure the reason he hasn’t accomplished ANYTHING during his career as a politician is because EVERYTHING seems huge to him. A mind, so small, is only working on instinct (as the cavemen) for survival, so isn’t capable of doing more.
@augieray
Again, for a party that now seems to contain significant numbers of open Nazis, the irony is also that the Third Reich closely resembled what they regard as good government
Hardly the small state though was it?
@augieray All very well but don't you think that social media companies need more regulation?
@augieray You should name the author...*cough, Rand Paul, cough*
Now, to find replacements who agree with that sentiment, for ousting the current batch of baboons in office.
@augieray Well sure, but other than that… FREEDOM!

@AmishSuperModel @augieray Ain't it odd how selectively such folks apply the central word that animates their movement?

It's almost as if 'freedom' isn't a broad fundamental principle but a sort of marketing spin that can be applied, on demand, to justify their basket of deplorable values.

@KansasGrant @augieray FREEDOM! (to be straight, White Christians, that is)
@augieray anyone remember BEFORE FATMAN was elected when we weren't verbally assaulted everyday by the POTUS?
@augieray It seems like they mean Democrat led government should be small, but Republican ones should be BIG... HUGE... ENORMOUS...
@augieray
I hate the GOP's stranglehold of love and concern for us all.

@augieray basically they want for the rich and corporations to be able to whatever they want while micromanaging the rest of the population into virtual slavery.

As long as the Democrats continue licking the boots of corporations though we will not have a true opposition party as third parties are sued off ballots nation wide.

@Sh4d0w_H34rt @augieray Forget third parties. They’re a waste of time.
@Craktok so we should be fine with how the major parties sue to get them removed from ballots forcing them to expend resources in court fighting those decisions? Should we be fine with the two parties who are openly hostile to the voice of the people and are bought off by corporations? That's not a Democracy.
@Sh4d0w_H34rt luckily there’s one party on the side of the people. It’s much more worthwhile to support them than to waste a vote on a third party which can never be elected.
@Craktok I'm assuming you are referring to the corporately owned Democrats, the party so addicted to corporate donations (bribes) that they often throw the people under the bus and never correct the garbage policies of the GOP.
@Sh4d0w_H34rt interesting way to interpret reality. I’m talking about the party trying to curb gun violence, passed the American rescue plan and trying to protect women’s rights.
@Craktok gas lighting and condescension hallmarks of a democrats response. So let me break it down how many "real" as in substantive policies have Dems passed on those issues in the past when they had full control? How many times have they promised a bill would fix a social issue but as written wasn't a give away to the rich. If you're saying only Dems can stop fascism in this country you're lieing cause its starring us in the face.
@Sh4d0w_H34rt I just listed you things that this government has done. Don’t try and dismiss them because they don’t fit your narrative. Facism is staring everyone in the face because of people like you who split the vote by voting for third party no-hopers and weaken democracy.
@augieray The irony is gigantic for sure.
@augieray DeSantis Promises Florida will Control Disney's Content - New York Intelligencer https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/03/desantis-promises-florida-will-control-disney-content.html
@kurtsh @augieray he does realize Disney is a California based company??
@kurtsh @augieray So what would be the impact on Florida if Disney just pulled out altogether?
@frmarty @kurtsh You mean abandon a trillion dollars of investment? The impact would be the board would fire Bob Iger, then continue to operate in Florida.
@augieray @kurtsh I don't mean permanent, but this seems to be a battle shaping up between DeSantis/Florida and Disney, and (in my view) Florida is way more dependent on Disney than Disney is on Florida. Would the Board choose to instead allow their content to be vetoed by the Governor of Florida?
@kurtsh @augieray what, are they gonna force Disney to make the Empire the good guys in star wars?
@augieray
They don't want a small government that they can't notice, they want a massive government that specifically doesn't notice them.

@augieray

This cannot be shared enough or said enough if we value democracy, freedom of choice or a country that care about all its people.

@augieray and further they're so myopic to the outside world as to not see how lack of regulation killed tens of thousands in Turkey where buildings skirted basic construction standards/inspections re quakes.
@augieray They want a government so small that it can fit in a woman's uterus.

@augieray
I just realized now that the definition for this phenomenon was invented in 1984, by George Orwell in his [at-the-time] fictitious novel 1984:

Doublethink: the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.

There’s a bit of a difference between the minor contradictions of a Willy Loman and engaging the apparatus of the state to enforce ten major interventions, as listed in the post, and a couple of more listed in the comments.

@augieray if you think that is some kind of gotcha - they don't care. They know about which side of gov they talk about. And honestly, they gonna win if other side does not show up.
@augieray it just means visibly small not actually small……
@augieray Freakin idiots…. The GOP hence should be so small we hardly can see it anymore… actually a very good idea 👍
@augieray The #DFP (Dumpster Fire Party) wants the government to be a virus. So small you don't know it's there, but envades everything, and intends to kill you or make you deathly ill.
@augieray If the GQP would just shut up, maybe we wouldn't notice government so much!
@augieray Says the party of martial law and banning everything.
@richservo @augieray still suprised trump didn't use the January 6th capitol raid to inactive martial law and truly end the United States

@augieray @etherdiver Well of course it’s not ironic. They mean it 100%…for the narrow set of people included with the word “you.”

GOP voters want the government to leave them the fuck alone and spend 100% of its time smiting their enemies, and that’s what this tweet promises.

@augieray I feel that I've been overworking my "Always" metaphor(Wings are optional) but it seems they want government small enough to fit in my underwear, and I must object.
@augieray From the billionaire Robert Mercer’s notebook.
@augieray yes, now actually do that
@augieray Also, Ron DeSantis is trying to add all Florida bloggers to his enemies' list registry and Trump might have a surprise in store for us if he gets to enact the mass executions he has been wanting lately.
@augieray Republicans want small government with respect to the wealthy, corporations, and political organizations and campaigns. They want Big Brother government restricting everyone else, restricting speech, healthcare, employment rights, legal rights and power, voting rights, environmental protections, civil rights, minority rights, religious rights, and so on over every aspect of their lives. They want authoritarian rights over people.
@augieray But also, and I think this is a point often lost in these discussions...if they don't believe in government, WHY ELECT THEM TO RUN GOVENMENTS?
@augieray they are today’s fascist cons. Vile and useless and violent. The enemy of free people everywhere.
@augieray When Republicans say in 2023 that the best government governs least, they are referring to governance over members of the white, heteronormative, Christian patriarchy. For everyone else, they will go to any lengths and muster every last resource to bring you to their heel or grind you to a pulp, if your obedience can’t be secured.
@augieray So they can steal, lie and fraud.
@augieray sending thoughts and prayers to USA.
@augieray Small for them (and their supporters/donors) large for everyone else
@augieray It’s hard to perceive irony and hypocrisy when your head and everyone’s around you is stuck in a false narrative. #Freedumb prevails again
@augieray It is how fascism works. The Big Lie pulls in those who cannot make the connections but only hear the slogans. Remember the sheep in Animal Farm, trained to bleat “Four legs good! Two legs bad!”. They are aware of the lie; and they know it will work for their intended audience.
@augieray Substitute ‘covert’ for ‘small’.

@augieray Strictly considered they're even right:

"GOP" government should be so small, it shouldn't even be found in D.C. & in government.
