My wife and I went to Barnes and Noble in Brookfield, Wisconsin yesterday to get pictures of "Mastodon for Dummies." The staff person who helped us find the shelf had me sign the book. Afterwards she said she'd add an "Author signed" sticker to the cover. That was fun!
BTW, we are still looking for reviewers to read and comment on the book. DM me with your mailing address if you're interested. #MastodonForDummies
@workingwriter I need to read your book to find out know how to dm ☠️
@workingwriter You may want to ask professor John Mastodon for a review. I hear he's good.

@workingwriter

It is currently available in english language only, i guess? So in which markets/countries is it distributed?

@workingwriter hey Michael congrats! i would be happy to read or review.
@workingwriter It's always cool to see it in the store! I live 2 hours from the nearest bookstore that carries computer books, so thanks for posting this!
@workingwriter Then there is a Mastodon book. I must get one. 📙
@workingwriter Nice! Anywhere else in Milwaukee to buy one? (Alternately, what is the best way to purchase online?)
@rasterweb Hey! Missed this note. Brookfield B&N is the only one I know right now. Otherwise, go to bookshop.org/p/books/mastodon-for-dummies-chris-minnick/19275233. This site is a consortium of independent bookstores. Click Choose a Bookstore from the book page. They will pop up a list of local bookstores if you allow location (or type in a zip code). They say the bookstore you select gets 30% of the book's list price ($14.99 in our case). Cool, huh?
@workingwriter not related, but I grew up in Brookfield until the end of 8th grade. Small world.
@BadAlienBob Nice to meet you Bob! I grew up in Milwaukee, spent some time in Madison, then in Boulder, CO. Came back home, and wound up in West Allis. Small world indeed!
@workingwriter Awesome and congratulations on the book. I've added it to #Bookwyrm:

@Xavier Many thanks! Also for the reminder to update my bookwyrm account!
@workingwriter Where can this book be gotten online? #blind guy here, thus hardcopy = no use to me.
@workingwriter @Dr_phred Here is a thought: Mastodon is a hodgepodge of unusable garbage. Make it actually work and usable, and people won't need books to do even the simplest of things.
@workingwriter Congrats, sir, from a fellow (former) FIS-er.
@workingwriter does Wiley sell it direct?

@workingwriter
I was thinking someone needed to write such a book. I was tempted to start one myself.

Glad to hear you beat me to it! Congratulations on making it to the B&N bookshelf!

One piece of advice: ALWAYS post your #Amazon link on any #author #book promo thread. 😉 Plus, hashtag the heck out of it:

@workingwriter congrats, Michael!

I look forward to picking up the second edition, after some of the edits are implemented! Thank you for being so gracious about receiving feedback from so many!

It feels good to be a part—even if just a very small part—of what’s happening with #fedi right now. I’m happy to be here; this place is cool
